• May Meetup - Lightning Talks & WordPress 15th Anniversary!
For our May Summerville meetup we're doing lightning talks and celebrating WordPress - the WordPress 15th anniversary will be on May 27, 2018 and everyone is celebrating in the month of May! #wp15 For those not familiar, a "lightning talk" is a talk delivered in about 5-10 minutes followed by a short Q+A. Instead of one speaker presenting, we will have several speakers each presenting for a shorter time. We currently have 2 scheduled talks but are open to last-minute submissions! If you're interested, please submit a message to the organizers with a brief bio and talk description. You can also email [masked]. We plan to keep things casual and fun and also use the meetup as a chance to catch up and celebrate WordPress' 15th anniversary together! We'll have pizza, soda and a dessert! Our meetup is also generously sponsored by SiteGround who has given us some great swag to share with everyone! CURRENT TALKS: Adam Romer - Demo and intro to WP-CLI (WP command line interface) Heather Solos - GDPR overview: what it means, what you need to know CURRENT SCHEDULE (flexible as always!): 6:15 - 6:35: Arrivals, mingle/chat, food 6:35 - 7:25: Lightning talks / Q&A's / group discussion 7:25 - 7:45: Finish mingling / cleanup The library graciously offers their meeting room free of charge, but asks that everyone exit the room by 7:45pm. If you wish to continue your conversations with other members, there is an Applebee's and Waffle House next door =) Also, please keep voices down when exiting - thanks! -------- If you'd be interested in giving a full-length talk about a topic related to WordPress at one of our future meetups, we'd love to hear from you! • WordPress Happiness Bar - Q&A and Tutoring
    • What we'll do There will be no formal presentation for this meeting. What we will be doing is fielding questions, talking about challenges, doing a bit of tutoring, and trying to help everyone become more proficient with WordPress. Bring your laptops and your brains. If the questions warrant, we may throw them up on the big screen and engage in a group discussion. Others will be paired off into one-on-one sessions. We need everyone from beginners to experts. • What to bring Laptops, questions, and answers. • Important to know This is a open, community event. This is not a place to make sales pitches or drum up business.

  • Summerville September Meetup - AI Content for Your Blog
Join us on Tuesday, September 5 for our first Fall Summerville meetup! Topic: Creating Unique Original Content for Your Blog, Automatically This month’s meetup will feature a talk by J.R. Getches on why unique content is so important for bloggers, what led him to create the Zaphne (https://wordpress.zaphne.com/) plugin for WordPress, and his experiences in developing it. He will also show how you can use Zaphne to automatically create original content for your WordPress blog. The creation of regular relevant content is the single most important factor impacting SEO rankings. But while over 3 million blogs are created each month, only 5% are updated regularly – essentially abandoned. Zaphne was developed by a team of committed and experienced entrepreneurs who solved a common problem for millions of bloggers – how to post keyword rich, relevant content every day. Speaker: J.R. Getches J.R. started his professional career as Director of Data Processing for RJK Corporation, Virginia's largest private investment company. Mr. Getches then moved to New York City where he was hired as a Senior Programmer/Analyst for Dow Jones developing their Foreign Currency and Precious Metals Trading Systems. After eight years in New York, J.R. accepted an offer in Los Angeles to be Director of Strategic Development for the publicly traded Recovery Network helping to create television programming for recovering alcoholics and drug abusers seen in fourteen million American homes. J.R. returned to the internet programming world as part of the Tickets.com launch team where he was again Senior Programmer. In 2004, J.R. moved back to the east coast to be closer to his family and became Webmaster of Motley Rice LLC, the world's largest plaintiff's law firm running all of their internet operations for five years. Since then, he has been an internet consultant for many regional companies including The Post & Courier, Charleston Mercury, People Matter, and Green Wizard. J.R. is Founder and CEO of Zaphne.
