The Annual WordPress Meetup Member Survey!

From: WordPress
Sent on: Friday, December 25, 2015 12:49 PM

Hello WordPress meetup members!

As 2015 comes to a close, we’d like to get your feedback on how your meetup group is doing. Even if you don’t attend meetup events, there are questions where your opinion would be valuable. If you can take this quick survey before the end of the year, we’d really appreciate it!

Become an Event Organizer
One of the things we’ve been encouraging people to do is organize more events within their meetup group. Many groups still have one event per month, often a presentation or lecture followed by Q&A or a social hour. These regular events are great, but it means that people who can’t make that time each month are left out, as are people who are interested in different topics. All meetups on the WordPress chapter account (like this one) allow any member of the group to organize an event, so in 2016, think about what kind of event you’d like to attend, and plan it! Maybe you want to form a study group to find some people who want to learn how to build a theme with you using an online tutorial, maybe you want to get together on Saturday mornings at a coffee shop and spend time working on your own WordPress sites or blogs, maybe you want to meet up with people in your part of town and contribute back to the WordPress open source project together, maybe ….? The possibilities are endless, and as long as it relates to WordPress, go ahead and do it through the meetup group!

Become a Contributor to the WordPress Project
One of the things we’ve heard from people is a desire for their meetup group to be more connected to the overall WordPress open source project. To this end, we will are going to try something new this year. Each month, we’ll send an email to all of our meetup groups with a little bit of news about what’s new in the project community, and will be running a contributor drive the 4th weekend of each month. For each contributor drive, one of the teams on will set up a way for meetup groups to participate in a remote contributor day. We’ll do one each month, and will let you know in the monthly email what’s coming up next so you have time to find a venue if you want to get people together in your city to participate. The first contributor drive will be the 4th weekend in January, for the support team --- you’d be answering questions in the support forums and/or IRC. We hope these will be fun weekend events, and we’ll post the results of each monthly contributor drive at, the blog for the team that oversees WordCamps and meetups.

Here’s to a great 2016, and as always, thanks for using WordPress!
The friendly folks from the WordPress community team
