WordPress Tasmania September 2013 Meetup

From Nothing to Website in 30 Minutes, Without Touching Code, for Free

This is building a website with WordPress 101.

You want to get a website up and running, you have no budget, limited time, and don't know any code. Should be easy, right? Well it is!

We'll walk you through installing WordPress, getting and installing a theme, some basic settings, and some staple plugins. Don't know what half of that meant? No worries, we'll explain as we go.

Question time: Let's have a chat over some pizza! We can chat about WordPress, or anything at all.

If anyone has anything specific they'd like to mentioned, please let me know in your answers when you RSVP for this meetup.

Having trouble finding the venue? Check out this Google Map. Venue information can also be found on Facebook.

Also, did I mention there'll be pizza and drinks? Courtesy of Envato!

Thanks for the great tips especially on testing themes with wptest and woocommerce!

Thanks, Scott! Sorry I didn't get a chance to chat with you afterwards, I hope I get to next time :)

Hi all, thanks again for a great meetup (and pizza!) Sorry that I always have to leave early. I remembered a handy tip (which Japh may have covered already) is that under settings/reading you have the option to discourage search engines from visiting your new site. This is handy if you don't want the world to see your site (or your client's site) while it is still being developed. But, when you are ready, don't forget to go back in and uncheck the box so that the search engines can now find you.

Thanks again, and see you next time.
    Tim

If anyone wants to bring their laptop and try to follow along, you're more than welcome to!

However, I will be going relatively speedily to cover everything, so I may not be able to stop for you if you get stuck. Taking notes would be a great idea though, because then you can go back through the whole process yourself later :)

Always more than welcome to post questions under "Discussions" above too if you need to, or on WPAustralia.org
