I have been using WordPress for about six months and would describe myself as an intermediate user.
I have prepared two WP websites for clients very recently, the following site was done for a therapist in Aurora http://kinsingercounselling.ca/. A friend of mine enjoys drag racing near Winnipeg, Manitoba and wanted a basic site to promote himself to sponsors and share with his friends http://crazyhare.ca/. Both of these clients are very new to the blogosphere and haven't started to blog yet, but that is to follow. I have three more sites in the works and am keen to expand my knowledge of working in the environment.
I think my greatest challenge is the styling, I want to have more control over the design. I have a reasonable understanding of CSS in an HTML environment but am finding it difficult to use child themes.
Before using WordPress, I have built a few sites in HTML with Dreamweaver and I prefer the off-line environment. I have set up a server on my computer using Bitnami with limited success. Then I attempted setting up a MAMP server to work in Dreamweaver CS5, but again had trouble making it all work properly. I would be happy to have a session on setting up an off-line server. I feel like there are gaps in my understanding and wonder if I should be taking a course (ie. Humber College) to further my understanding or are there alternatives. I have also used the Linda.com training videos and while it is helpful, its not interactive enough for my liking. What's the most effective method to learning the WordPress environment - trial and error is taking a long time?
I look forward to meeting the group, as well as expanding my knowledge of online marketing for myself and for my clients.
