- March Meetup
Time to have another WordPress meetup! We are very excited to announce another awesome WordPress Zurich Meetup in March. The March meetup will feature two incredible talks, one technical and the other for all audiences and of course there will be enough time to chat and have beer to discuss all things WordPress. Felix Arntz, Developer Programs Engineer at Google will talk about "Web Policies and Reporting – Defining Contracts Between Your Site and the Browser": This short talk will provide an introduction to a couple of new web technologies — Feature Policy and Reporting API — and how you can use them in WordPress. Andreas Feuz, self-employed WordPress consultant & author will talk about "WordPress versus Website Builders: Is WordPress Doomed?" This short talk with slideshow (slides are available at: https://slides.com/onedaywebsite/wordpress-versus-website-builders/) looks at website builders like wix.com, squarespace to determine if they are a threat to WordPress in the CMS sphere or if they could actually unintentionally over the long term help WordPress developers, designers and consultants bring in totally new clients. We are excited about the talks and very happy to have two wonderful speakers in March, thank you Felix and Andy. If you have any questions or topics you want to suggest, feel free to leave a comment or send us an email via https://wpzurich.ch/contact/ ! Of course we'll post any updates that might arise on the meetup page and https://wpzurich.ch, so keep your eyes open. - WordPress 15th Anniversary Celebration
WordPress will be 15th years old this May 27th, 2018! On Wednesday, May 30th, we are joining WordPress communities around the world by celebrating the WordPress 15th anniversary. Just like we did 5 years ago for the 10th anniversary, we want to enjoy this event with some refreshments (and maybe even a WordPress birthday cake!) in a relaxed atmosphere and celebrate 15 years of WordPress. We'll be sharing our party photos and love for WordPress with the rest of the world via the hashtag #wp15. Don't forget to spread the word, let's make this WordPress birthday memorable :) Note: at the beginning we planned on doing something outdoors, but due to the weather forecast and Liip being such a great host, we will be at our usual spot at the Liip Arena.
- GDPR/EU-DSGVO Data Protection Law with Martin Steiger (Steiger-Legal)
As many of you probably know, there's a new data protection law coming to the EU very soon. The new law is designed to protect individuals within the EU and regulate things like the collection, export or storage of personal information outside the EU. This will affect a lot of swiss companies and websites and there's a lot of uncertainty around the whole topic. To bring some light to this topic, we invited Martin Steiger from Steigerlegal.ch to join us for this Meetup. He can give us a good introduction into the topic as well as a Q&A at the end. Schedule The times are just an estimate to give you an idea of what you can expect. * 18.30 — Doors open * 18.45 — Opening remarks and announcements (DE/EN) (Pascal) * 19.00 — GDPR / EU-DSVGO (DE) (Martin Steiger) * 19.30 — Upcoming GDPR relevant changes in WordPress Core (DE/EN) (Pascal) * 19.45 — Discussion, Open Floor, Socializing * 20.45 — Finish your drinks :-) GDPR / EU DSVGO The new data protection law will become enforceable from 25 May 2018, which makes this the perfect opportunity to get ourselves ready, learn about the challenges ahead and — if necessary — to make the changes needed. We are looking forward to an interesting evening!

Last time we hosted a super interesting Q&A session. This month, join us for what will probably the last WordPress meetup in Zurich this year! **Schedule** The times are just an estimated to give you an idea of what you can expect. * 18.30 — Doors open * 18.45 — Opening remarks and announcements (EN) (Pascal) * 19.00 — WordPress 4.9 Recap and 5.0 Preview (EN) (Pascal) * 19.15 — Progressive Web Apps: the next big thing? (EN) (Nico) * 19.30 — Discussion, Open Floor, Socializing * 20.30 — Finish your drinks :-) **Topics** **WordPress 4.9 Recap and 5.0 Preview** Since WordPress 4.9 was just recently released, I'll highlight some of its features. I'll also try to give a quick glimpse at what we can expect 2018 with WordPress 5.0. You might have heard that there's a new kid on the block called Gutenberg … I'll show you what Gutenberg is and what it means for the future of WordPress. **Progressive Web Apps: the next big thing?** EN: Progressive Web Apps (PWA) extend websites with functionality usually known from native mobile apps. They close a gap between the open web and all the app stores out there. With increased browser support now's the time to have a closer look at that technology and to discuss its possibilities within WordPress after Nicos' introduction.
