Brighton & Hove's First Contribution Day

  • Feb 28, 2015 · 9:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

You do NOT have to be a developer to contribute. Come along! There are lots of ways to contribute back to WordPress.

Whether you’ve never contributed to WordPress before, or if you’ve done so for years, you’re invited to the first Brighton WordPress Contributor Day. This is your chance to learn how to contribute, hang out with others who love to contribute, and contribute yourself — all in one day.

It will be a day of fun, active day of contributing in all areas of WordPress. Contributors from different teams will be present to help you get up to speed with how you can contribute to WordPress.

Don’t know exactly what you want to do? No problem! Just show up and we’ll help you find a way to contribute!

To keep ourselves fuelled, we are putting on lunch, snacks and brews during the day.

Be prepared:

Teams:

Contributions to WordPress are split into different teams. A list of the teams can be found at https://make.wordpress.org/ - please review the different teams ahead of the event and see which ones interest you.

If you are unsure of which team you would like to join that is completely fine, there will be people on the day who can help discuss what it is that you are looking to help with.

If you would like to join multiple teams, that is also not a problem. During the day you will be free to switch between teams as you want.

Set up ahead of time:

To ensure that we maximise the day, we recommend that you have the following downloaded and installed on the day. If you have any issues, don’t worry there will be support on the day to help get you set up.

• A basic text editor

• A local development environment; for example, MAMP,WAMPVagrant & (ViirtualBox or VMWare), or XAMPP.

• WordPress Meta Environment is also available for working on Meta sites like developer.wordpress.org and wordcamp.org.

• VVV - is available for anyone who wants a vagrant box of WordPress.

Running Order:

An initial running order has been put together but please be aware that this is subject to change:

09:30 – 10:00 Registration

10:00 – 10:30 intro & Groups

10:30 – 13:00 First Session

13:00 – 14:00 Lunch

14:00 – 17:00 Second Session

17:00 – 17:30 Wrap Up

After the event, a few of us will be heading to the (lets find somehere) for some post contribution drinks. You are all more than welcome to come and join us!

Thanks to everyone who made today possible, listened to some really good talks and met some really cool people. And thanks to Pragmatic and WP Engine for breakfast and lunch

Thanks so much, everyone, for your selfless input. Thanks for the lentil burger and the final push away from Thematic :-)

Terrible co-host that I am - I'm not going to make it! The whole family has been down the a cold so I'm on emergency Daisy-sitting duty. Perhaps I can contribute remotely? If I'm sure I won't give you all a nasty case of the snot I might bring Daisy up later to disrupt proceedings :)

    Have a great day!

Can we get some gluten free pizza in the order please? :) Might be a good idea to check dietary requirements..

There's a nice deli down the road that does salads and lots of other things - I thought it would be a bit more Brighton (homous and quinoa) than pizza.

A bit of excitement in the build up. WP Engine have very generously offered to buy pizza and send some swag to lend some support for the event :)

I'm afraid I won't be there as it clashes with my honeymoon.

We're also planning some supportive meet ups for Jan and Feb for anyone that wants to attend. Details coming shortly.

I could come and do the teas and coffee as I am still a bit of a plodder with WP.
