We know as technical writers there is never enough of us to go around. Join us as we discuss how we can help ourselves, and coworkers, create better error messages.
This evening we will have Kate Voss present followed by a group discussion on microcopy and UX writing. We will also talk about Unconferences and Lightning talks and if we're interested in using them as a community.
Error(Null): How to Make Errors Suck Less
Kate Voss (@KateWanders)
"We often forget that the most common form of documentation that users see are error messages. We've all felt the pain of confusing and cryptic errors, but they don't have to be frustrating. In fact they are an opportunity to talk to users and help them use your product. I will compare bad errors with good ones, and give recommendations on how to make short messages user-centric and actionable."
Our event this month is sponsored by Cantina (https://cantina.co/). Cantina is located in Fort Point on Congress St and is a 7-8 minute walk from South Station (MBTA, red line). If you plan on driving, there are several parking lots in the area (I will see if they recommend any in particular).
