What we’re about

Some people like to write in isolation. We are not those people.

Writing is like going to the gym or to the yoga studio -- it's just easier when there's a little peer pressure.

At Writers Blok, we provide everything you'll need for a productive writing session: unlimited coffee, tea, and snacks. Even the music is selected with writers in mind. And there's chocolate at the end. It's like going to the coffee shop, except that no one is going to look at you sideways because you haven't bought anything in an hour.

What we're most proud of, though, is our ability to build community. Each of our sessions ends with some form of group work: a chance to talk about goals and dreams. And to commiserate about whatever obstacle has come up in our writing.

We welcome writers of all disciplines at Writers Blok. We get screenwriters, novelists, poets, memoirists, and comedians. Some of our writers are professionals; others are just getting started.

We frequently welcome guest speakers for Q&As about the writing process and their own journeys to the top (or the middle). Past guests include Rob McElhenney, Megan Ganz, Bill Lawrence, and Danny Zuker.

We host two types of sessions: Sprints and Extended Sessions. When you come to a Sprint Session, we'll give you a piece of chalk and have you write a goal for the session on our chalkboard. Then comes 50 minutes of uninterrupted writing, followed by a quick check-in on your goals. Extended Sessions consist of 90 minutes of uninterrupted writing, followed by 30 minutes of small-group breakout sessions featuring talking prompts and chocolate.

Our sessions are held inside our own dedicated space in the Culver City Arts District, hosted by working writers who know the ups and downs and ins and outs of living and writing in Los Angeles.

We hope you'll come see us soon. We'll be glad to have you.

Writing can be lonely. It doesn't have to be.
