What we're about

Private Group

The Writing Hour is a writers' group based in Baltimore, MD, that was created to provide a regular space and time for people to work on their writing projects, and to foster community among writers. We are open to all writers, whether one is working on a novel, screenplay, thesis, poetry, etc. Though based in Baltimore, our doors are open to visitors, and we have had members come from all over the nation and world. Over the years our group has become a highly diverse collection of people from all backgrounds, bonded, sometimes solely, by their love of writing, and this diversity of minds, experiences, tastes, ages, and selves has provided some excellent conversation on craft and possibilities.

Every other Sunday we host Writing Hour, a meetup that provides regular unstructured time and space to get together and write in company. Attendees are self-directed and typically come with projects they are working on already in progress or in mind. We do not provide prompts or criticism, but occasionally people will share excerpts of their work for feedback.

Some weeknights we host Submissions Parties, times for people to get together and tackle the often tedious task of submitting their work to journals, literary agents, publishers, etc., in good company over coffee, buns, and beer.

We also host other events such as all day retreats, write-ins in the park, brunch, and more. We're always open to ideas, and interested members who have attended meetings and know how the group works are invited to plan and host writing related activities.

Lastly, as is the aim of writers, we at times produce tangible media!
