  • May 20, 2014 · 7:00 PM
  • Luisa's Writing Room

When: Tuesday nights from 7–9pm
Where: Schöneberg
Start date: May 20th (no class June 10)
Course Length: 7 weeks
Maximum Participants: 10
Cost: 120 euros

Description: Have cookbooks and food magazines always held as much promise for you as a novel? Do you find yourself composing essays about your latest lunch on a daily basis? Do you compulsively see culture through the lens of food? Join Berlin-based food writer Luisa Weiss in this 8-week course in which we’ll explore both what makes good food writing so great and workshop your own work. We’ll read and discuss a wide variety of pieces by acclaimed food writers and novelists (Laurie Colwin, Nora Ephron, and MFK Fisher, to name but a few) and then use those short stories or personal essays or novel chapters or articles as jumping-off points for your own work. There will be weekly writing assignments.

Luisa Weiss is the author of the food memoir My Berlin Kitchen, an LA Times bestseller, and the writer behind The Wednesday Chef, an acclaimed food blog which she started in 2005. In 2009, it was named the third best food blog in the world by the Times of London. Luisa was a cookbook editor at Stewart, Tabori & Chang in New York City where she edited books by Alton Brown, Kim Boyce, and Matt Lewis & Renato Poliafito, among others. Luisa is currently working on a cookbook on German baking for Ten Speed Press. She lives in Berlin with her husband and toddler.
