Gurney, poet and musician, served in the First World War, writing the Ludlow and Teme song cycle in High Wycombe on his return. His life-long friend,Howells, dedicated his Piano Quartet to him and Finzi later collected and published his songs after his death.

Finzi Prelude and Fugue for String Trio, Gurney Ludlow and Teme (tenor and string quartet plus piano) Rogers Covey-Crump - tenor; The Lodden Quartet: Cormac Browne –
violin, Dan Cornford – viola, Roberto Sorrentino – cello and Marisa Cornford – piano.
