Thanks for your interest in our group! We are OPEN to new members. If you would like to join us, please request to join through MeetUp and send a message to the organizer (Zoe) with an introduction that includes...
+ your experience as a writer
+ a brief summary of your work-in-progress
+ your experience with critique groups
+ anything else we should know about you!
What you should know about our group:
+ We are fun, positive, and encouraging. This is a space to grow and learn as a writer. This group has met regularly since February 2018.
+ This is a critique group, not a generative writing group. When we meet, we discuss the works in progress of the members of our group. We usually discuss about 20 double-spaced pages (8,000 words or less) of a manuscript.
+ We do not do full manuscript reviews and, generally, we do not write together as a group.
+ We are writers for young adult and middle grade audiences. Our books are for readers ages 10-18, approximately. If you write for adult audiences, this isn't the group for you.
+ If you are just getting started or if you are not sure if your book is YA/MG, please take some time to read THE MAGIC WORDS by Cheryl B. Klein. It's a great starter resource for folks who are interested in writing for young people. (For example, YA is not a genre, it's an audience. Genres would include things like mystery, romance, science fiction, realist drama, etc. We expect members of this group to know the audience of their work in progress [young adult or middle grade] and genre).
+ We meet face-to-face twice a month in the evenings in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle at a coffee shop near the Link light rail stop.
+ We use Slack to arrange meetings, share documents, and communicate. New to Slack? No problem, we can show you the ropes!
+ Questions? Just ask!
