Bowness Road and Shagannappi Trail, Calgary, AB
Event Name: Ski to Watridge Lake
Event Coordinator: Bob Wilson
Event Description: We'll be skiing to Watridge Lake in the Spray Lakes (Mount Shark) area.
Event Difficulty: This is an easy trail, with one short downhill requiring some snowplow technique. Part of the trail is track-set.
Trail Distance: 3.9 km one way to the lake, 1 km farther to Karst Spring
Elevation Gain: 60 metres
Trailhead: Mount Shark Trails parking lot
Safety Precaution: this trail is somewhat open, cold winds off the lake are possible. It is also possible to ski part way farther, towards the Karst Spring. That part of the trail is challenging, with trees, stumps, and deadfall.
Further Discussion: the main trail ends with lovely scenery, at the (admittedly) cool and breezy Watridge Lake. Most visitors ski and/or hike further to the amazing Karst Spring. Bring your cameras for this one.
Driving Distance: 150 km, one way.
