Due to the lack of snow in the Kananaskis Valley, we will be heading to Lake Louise to cross country ski the Pipestone Trails and enjoy the excellent snow conditions!
Description: This long a popular trail follows a spectacular valley hemmed in by cliffs of Mount Kidd and Bogart. Your companion for the whole journey is the disgracefully behaved Ribbon Creek, its rapids and waterfalls at their very best.
This was the first ski trail system developed in the Kananaskis Valley, created in 1972 by Don Gardner. When there is adequate snow it provides excellent cross-country skiing. Ranging across lower slops of Mounts Collembola, Allen and Kidd there are plenty of viewpoints.
South of Ribbon Creek, Kovach is a shoe-in for best snow, best viewpoint and best downhill run. The best downhill between the high point and the Link can be schussed with intermittent checks, but slow down for the hairpin lest you scare the wits out of up-coming skiers. It's also a superb trail to ski in the opposite direction once you've climbed to the high point. You still have some downhills, but thy're rather less steep and at the south end is a truly delightful series of easy S bends, which wind you down to Terrace near Kananaskis Village.
