INFORMATION ON LEVELS

Beginner Class requires no experience and no partner is necessary. Learn the basics that are the foundation for Argentine Tango and allow you to dance socially by the end of the series. Join us at the practica from 10:30-11:30p after class to practice what you've learned and on Sunday nights at our Practilonga. Everyone needs the basics, so anyone wanting to brush up on those is welcome to signup. We also encourage men who are interested in learning following and women who are interested in leading, as it makes for better dancers through better understanding of the dance from the other side.

Level 1 classes are designed for those who are familiar with the basic steps covered in the beginner bootcamp, are eager to expand their dancing vocabulary, and work on technique. These classes will cover topics such as (but not limited to) the parada, right turn, musicality, vals, milonga, turn sequences, fundamental technique, as well as more challenging moves like the boleo, sacada, and gancho in both close and open embrace. These classes will help solidify the foundation of your tango, provide material that is difficult and challenging, but also practical for social dancing at milongas. These classes can be repeated, as topics are continually changing, and we strongly encourage this series for dancers who have been dancing less than three years. It’s been our most popular series and it’s no wonder why.

Level 2 classes are designed for those who have completed the bootcamp, taken intermediate classes, and have a solid grasp of essential tango technique. Students signing up for these classes should be very comfortable with, and be willing to demonstrate in front of the class, the ocho cortado, the left and right turn, a sacada, a boleo, and should be able to differentiate between a tango, vals, and milonga. These classes will be more intensive and will build upon the technique and material presented in intermediate classes. Topics will include (but are not limited to) boleo sequences, musicality, ganchos, vals and milonga specific steps, volcadas, sacada sequences, and more complicated moves like colgadas and/or single axis turns. If you have completed the intermediate series and are interested in beginning advanced classes please check with the instructor to see if you are ready for the advanced class. This class is geared for dancers who have a solid grasp of the essential elements of tango and have the technique and skill required to build upon the material covered in intermediate classes.

Our club is large and it's a lot of work to stay on top of everything we organize. Therefore, in order to be more efficient, we only take your payments online by credit or debit card to avoid human error. Cash payments will be accepted the first day of class for class series. After that, our officers will refuse cash in payment for memberships, class series and unlimited passes. Items which can still be paid in cash are a single class or T-shirt; basically anything that costs $20 or less. About checks. If your credit or debit card fails or you don't have a card, you can bring in a check. Checks are a lot of work for our volunteers. If you don't pay online, you are in the database as Not Paid, we may have to remind you repeatedly to bring in the check, we have to log into the database and type in changes, write on your check, photocopy it, go to the bank to deposit it, and deal with check clearing issues. Please save yourself and us this trouble and use the online payment method if possible. Thank you!!!

After this series concludes, a new series will begin immediately afterwards on the same evening. Many attendees find repeating the same level a few times to be very helpful.
