What we're about

Welcome to Yoga Hikes! Sociable & Friendly Yoga Hiking Breaks

Yoga and Hiking is the perfect combination for a healthy, revitalising, enjoyable and friendly weekend break. We base all our breaks in very special places, start and finish the day with a yoga class and head out for great hikes on the doorstep.

"Just brilliant! Yoga and walking make the perfect couple, I've decided. Add to that a great venue, fabulous and plentiful food, homemade cake and great company, and you've a recipe for a perfect weekend. The fact it was in such beautiful surroundings as Windermere just made it even better." - Fiona, Feb 2017

All our weekends are run by Yen, who is a fully qualified yoga teacher and personal trainer and Kevin who is a fully qualified International mountain leader. We are based in the Lake District, so many of our trips are based here, but we also run trips to the mountains of Andalusia in Spain as well.

We focus on smaller group breaks of around 15 to 20, because we believe this is the ideal group size to manage safely and give everyone the opportunity to meet each other and make friends. Its also the ideal size for yoga class. We have run larger groups, but we feel they can become impersonal and more difficult to manage safely.

Tea & Homemade Cake
A popular feature of all of our weekends has become Yen's homemade cakes. This is a delicious and rewarding way to finish all of our hikes.

Fitness
We welcome people of all nationalities and backgrounds, the only requirement is a love of the outdoors and a good level of fitness. Our yoga hikes weekends are aimed at people who are already reasonably fit and are happy to participate in two yoga classes and walk for about 6 hours each day.

RSVP numbers
You may notice that some breaks and trips are showing with more people booked than you can see on the Meetup page. This is because we also have other Meetup groups and our own website (www.yogahikes.co.uk) where we take bookings.

Yoga Classes: Choice of 5 ability classes (improver/gentler or intermediate
Hiking: Choice of 2 guided hikes (moderate or strenuous) (1 per day)
Rooms: single and twin (or double)
Food: Choice of vegetarian or non-vegetarian options

Rydal Hall yoga hikes break at Rydal Hall
The Rydal Hall YogaHikes weekend will begin with arrivals from 4pm on Friday and our first class will be at 5:30pm with dinner at 7:00pm.

This will be a larger group, so there will be a choice of level for the five yoga classes over the weekend, tailored to ability and experience : either improver/gentler or intermediate for those with some more yoga experience.

There will also be a choice of hikes on each day : a moderate walk and a more strenuous walk, all hikes will be led by qualified Mountain Leaders.

Your hosts for the weekend are Yen and Kevin who both live in the Lake District, know the area very well, and are also qualified in outdoor first aid.

Rydal Hall has plenty of history being owned by the Le Fleming family which can be traced back to 1126. It was built in the 16th century and has been enlarged, altered and refaced to what it is now currently, a grade II listed building along with the terraces, bridges, summerhouses and various outbuildings. The magnificent formal gardens are worthy of a visit, and offer a unique example of Edwardian gardening with beautiful lawns and flowers set against the fine architecture of the Hall itself. The Hall is now used as retreat and conference centre and is owned by the Diocese of Carlisle. The grounds of the hall are available for us explore freely for the whole weekend and provide tranquil and scenic gardens for a quiet moment or two.

Rydal Beck and its natural waterfalls flows through the grounds which include The Grot, a summerhouse built to view the waterfalls. The Grot is described in Wordsworth poem, An Evening Walk.

Lake District Yoga Hikes Break at Brathay Hall, Ambleside.

Needs a location

From £345 Depending on room choice.

Dates: Fri 29th July to Sun 31st July, 2022

Yoga Classes: Choice of 5 ability based classes (improver/gentler or intermediate
Hiking: Choice of 2 guided hikes (moderate or strenuous) (1 per day)
Rooms: single and twin (or double)
Food: Choice of vegetarian or non-vegetarian options

Our Lake District Yoga Hikes break at Brathay Hall will offer the best of both worlds. We will get out walking to enjoy the beautiful scenery in the Lake District and to practice yoga.

This will be a larger group, so there will be a choice of level for the five yoga classes over the weekend, tailored to ability and experience : either improver/gentler, or intermediate for those with some more yoga experience.

There will also be a choice of hikes on each day : a moderate hike and a more strenuous and faster paced hike, all hikes will be led by qualified Mountain Leaders.

We will be based at Brathay Hall near Ambleside for this Yoga Hikes Brathay Hall Weekend. The hall is part of the Brathay Trust which is situated in the heart of the Lake District at the head of Lake Windermere. The impressive Brathay Hall is set in 360 acres of mature woodland and rolling pasture. There is also a comfortable lounge and bar for us to relax in with stunning views of the grounds and lake.

We offer a yoga class on Friday evening, and then two yoga classes each day and we will explore the stunning Lake District scenery on a moderate hike in between.

We have found that we have a wide range of ability during our weekends from beginners to teachers. So for this weekend, at each yoga session slot there will be an improver/gentler class for those who are new or returning to yoga, (also suitable for those who may have an injury or a specific concern) and also an intermediate class for those who practice regularly or those with a longer standing practice.

Please select your preferred class on booking.

Please bring your own yoga mat and pillow case as a minimum. Other yoga equipment is provided (brick, block, strap, bolster, blanket and scented eye pillow), but you may prefer to bring your own if you have any.

All meals are included in the cost of the weekend. Saturday and Sunday breakfast, plus Friday and Saturday dinner will be provided by the Hall. Packed lunches on Saturday and Sunday will also be provided.

Breakfasts are served buffet style and are good quality with a good range of choices.
Dinners will be a two course meal that is served to the table .

All meals are taken in the Hall dining room.

(please note that Brathay can cater for vegetarians and non-vegetarians and other dietary requirements if advance notice is given)

Homemade Cake
It has become a popular feature of our breaks to offer large quantities of tea and home-made cake at the end of a walk.

Two reviews from two recent hiking and yoga breaks:
“Great weekend! Really enjoyed it, fantastic walks and yoga, would recommend it to anyone! Thanks Yen and Kevin for such a lovely weekend!”

“That was an amazing weekend! Huge thanks to Kevin and Yen, both are extremely helpful, easy going, and professional. Everything was perfect–breath-taking view, sunshine and clouds, delicious home-made cake, and on the top of that a wonderful group of new friends! Looking forward to the next walk with all of you.”
