Grasmere Independent Hostel is one of our favourite locations for weekend breaks. The hostel itself is immaculate, its a wonderful building, set in lovely grounds and we have it for our exclusive use for this weekend. The yoga studio is very new and also immaculate and is just across the courtyard from the accommodation where we will be offering a choice of classes for each session, a beginners class and a more intermediate level class.
The walks in the area are also wonderful and we will be able to do a full circuit of Grasmere lake on Saturday and a walk on Sunday beside tumbling streams and waterfalls up to the lovely beauty spot of Easedale Tarn.
The weekend will include three yoga classes, a guided hike each day, accommodation, breakfast and packed lunch on Saturday and Sunday and dinner on Saturday night in the hostel. Plus of course, plenty of Yen's homemade cake and tea after each days hike.
Grasmere is many peoples favourite Lakeland village and is famous for the small church where William Wordsworth is buried and also for Sarah Nelson’s Gingerbread shop, next door, which has been selling gingerbread since 1854.
Its also June, so the weather should be at its best for visiting this lovely corner of the Lakes.
Your hosts for this weekend are Yen who will take the yoga classes and Kevin who will lead the walks. Yen is a qualified yoga teacher and personal trainer and Kevin is an International Mountain and UK mountain leader. We both live in the Lake District and know the area very well and are both qualified in outdoor first aid.
Our base is Grasmere Independent Hostel located amidst the beautiful Central Fells and a short stroll from the idyllic village itself. Grasmere Independent Hostel is a truly special place at the heart of the Lake District National Park, with 5 ensuite rooms (sleeping combinations of 4,5 or 6 people). The deluxe 4 star hostel is perfect for our group. We have exclusive use of the Hostel which includes our own room for yoga.
Grasmere Hostel’s extensive facilities include en-suite bathrooms, a fully equipped self-catering kitchen, dining room, lounge with fantastic views, laundry facilities, secure bike storage, drying room, bbq patio area and even a sauna. Add to that the stunning location, midway between Windermere and Keswick, and you have the perfect base for our Lake District holiday.
The hostel is ranked #1 in Grasmere with a 5 star rating on Trip Advisor and the owners work tirelessly to keep it. Its also been praised by prestigious publications including The Rough Guide and The Guardian – who called it “The Lake District’s finest independent hostel”, no less.
There will be a total of three classes during the weekend.
We offer two yoga classes on Saturday with a walk in between through the village and around the lake. There will also be a yoga class on Sunday morning before breakfast.
The yoga is varied and so will be suitable for beginners as well as for those who have practised before. Sessions will take place before breakfast and after we return from our walk. The general focus of the morning sessions will be to energise and warm up the body for our walk, and in the afternoon, will be to stretch out those tired muscles and relax the body and calm the mind. Yoga and hiking are a good combination, and everyone leaves feeling rejuvenated and re-energised. A limited number of mats will be provided for your use but feel free to bring your own mat if you prefer. Any queries regarding the yoga sessions, please contact us.
We will offer two yoga classes for each slot (Saturday morning, Saturday evening and Sunday evening). We have found that we do have a wide range of yoga experience within our groups and therefore offering two classes means we will be able to offer a class more suited to those who are experienced (intermediate level) and a class for those who are beginners and new to yoga.
A limited number of mats will be provided for your use but feel free to bring your own mat if you prefer.
Any queries regarding the yoga sessions, please contact us.
On Saturday afer yoga and breakfast, we will head into the village, then around the lake to Loughrigg terrace which gives great views back across the lake to the village.
On Sunday we will do a steady walk where we can take in Helm Crag and Easedale Tarn, before returning to the hostel in time for departure.
These walks are moderate walks for the Lake District of about 7-8 miles each day. However, it is the Lake District and so there will be steep and rocky sections and possibly wet and boggy sections. Therefore a good level of fitness is required and boots are strongly advised.
