Our location for this four night Spain yoga hiking break, is an organic farm set high in the Sierra Nevada mountains in the south of Spain. A perfect location for a mid-autumn break, when the weather will still typically be sunny, warm and dry.
This is a yoga hiking break based in the mountains of Andalucía, in southern Spain, on a working organic farm in typically rustic accommodation in a beautiful area of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. We will be including two yoga classes each day, a guided hike through the mountains and through local villages, plus food and accommodation for the four day break.
The farm grows all its own vegetables and fruit and so you can be sure that the meals will be fresh and all organically grown.
The area is also famed for its typical white villages and has a wonderfully traditional Spanish feel to it which is a world away from the resorts of the Costas.
The accommodation is very Spanish, simple and is on a working organic farm, complete with pool overlooking the mountains.
The simple accommodation is mostly in twin shared rooms, with one dorm room of four and there is a purpose built yoga shala with some of the best views of the surrounding mountains.
All meals are included and will be prepared for us by a local cook using mostly fresh ingredients grown on the farm and locally, based on traditional Spanish recipes. However, it is in a remote area of Spain and one group meal will be provided at each meal time, so unfortunately we cannot cater for those with special dietary needs other than vegetarians.
There is also some great outside spaces where we can practice in the open air and a pool to relax in after our yoga and hiking.
There are some great local walks with high up mountain views, plus walks which take us along steep sided gorges and beside cool mountain streams. We can also walk to some of the typical old mountain villages nearby.
The farm is also home to a peacock breeding sanctuary, as well as to goats and horses and is a truly magical place which offers a unique opportunity to experience life on a Spanish farm.
Our accommodation is typically rustic but comfortable in a variety of room sizes.
The rooms are bright, colourful and full of local character.
and all individually decorated in local style. The accommodation for this Sierra Nevada yoga hiking break is mostly in twin shared rooms in apartments, with one dorm room of four with mountain views, all have shared bathrooms.
The outside areas include a great swimming pool for relaxing beside after classes and after our hikes.
There is also a great bbq and eating area with views of the mountains.
During this Spanish yoga hiking weekend, the classes are varied and so will be suitable for beginners as well as for those who have practised before. Sessions will take place each day before breakfast and after we return from our walks.
The general focus of the morning sessions will be to energise and warm up the body for our walk, and in the afternoon, will be to stretch out those tired muscles and relax the body. There will be an emphasis on the breath and movement, and our priority is for the yoga to be enjoyable and safe for all.
Yoga classes will generally be held indoors in the purpose built yoga shala overlooking the mountains, however there is also an excellent outdoor area where we may also hold some classes.
All yoga classes will be led by Yen who is a fully qualified and experienced yoga teacher registered with Yoga Alliance, a yoga sports coach and personal trainer.
If you have any queries regarding the yoga sessions, please contact us.
Yoga mats will not be provided so please bring your own.
Alternatively, we can provide a mat for you for an additional 10 Euros, but you must book this in advance.
There are many great local hikes in the area to some of the beautiful nearby villages, up towards the higher Sierra Mountains with spectacular views and we can follow mountain streams through deep valley gorges.
On some hikes we will get transport to the start or from the finish back to the Cortijo.
Please note also, that some of the walks will include sections on quite steep mountain terrain and may at times be quite strenuous. As we are in the mountains, the walks do have some steep and rocky sections and can be quite strenuous if you are not used to this type of walking. Therefore, to fully enjoy this break you should be a fit and confident hillwalker.
All hikes will be led by Kevin who is a fully qualified International Mountain Leader and member of the British Association of International Mountain Leaders (BAIML).

Travel - Getting there and back
There are lots of low cost airlines and flight options to and from the UK to Malaga which is the nearest airport. The flight time is 3 hours. You can also mix and match airlines and airports to get the best time and price to suit you. Skyscanner is a good site to look at for all options.
You may also want to extend for a few days to take in the Alhambra or spend a day or so at the coast.
We will arrange one group pickup from Malaga Airport to the accommodation at 15:00 on Thursday to meet with flights from the UK. So you are free to arrive at whatever time is convenient before 14:30 (to allow for baggage collection etc), but if your flight arrives later than this, then you will need to arrange your own transport to the Cortijo. The transfer time is approximately 2 hours.
On Monday you should book a flight departing from 5pm onwards and we will arrange one group transfer for this time. We will only be providing one group transfer, so if you flight time is later in the evening, then you will have some extra time at Malaga airport.
Car hire is also an option to give more flexibility while you are there.
Refunds are not offered for this Meetup.
