The Austin Yoga Meditation Group is dedicated to teaching yoga in all its aspects to all ages. The word "yoga" means to "link up" or "connect"; we get the English word "yoke" from the word yoga. It is this connection that we are all looking for to find fulfillment, to understand who we are and what our purpose is, and to live in a place of lasting peace and permanence within us, untouched by the temporary, changing, uncertain world around us. Meditation is often called the heart of yoga since this is where that connection happens. The techniques are simple and enjoyable. Even children can learn and practice daily. It's also free because it belongs to all of us already.

In our meditation classes, we practice three techniques using breathing, beads, and music. All are welcome, whether you are new to meditation, currently do meditation on your own, or have done meditation in the past.

My husband and I started this group because we want to give back what we have been given. We've been practicing yoga meditation for over 35 years, and it has brought us joy, inner peace, knowledge, and a tool we can use wherever we are to calm the mind and go within.

All meditation classes are free of charge and are offered several times a week at our location in NW Austin (13740 Research Blvd, Bldg T, Unit 3, Austin, 78750) as well as at some branch libraries in Austin. We also offer classes in yoga asana and yoga nidra (yoga exercise and relaxation), and we have a kids' class once a month at one of the Austin branch libraries.

Deep Peace Meditation

Yoga Meditation Group

Experience the deeply calming effects of Yoga Meditation. No need to bring anything. Dress comfortably. Seating is provided (floor chairs and sofas). Refreshments will also be provided. Yoga Meditation is simple, effective, and enjoyable. It helps to calm the mind, relax the body, and allow us to be more steady no matter what is happening in our lives. There will an opportunity after the class for questions about anything related to meditation, managing stress, dealing with anxiety, and so on. We also have other classes with more detailed instruction on starting a regular daily meditation practice at home and learning more about yoga philosophy. Yoga Asana Class

Yoga Asana is a practice of exercises, postures, and relaxation for the purpose of keeping the body functioning well our whole lives and to allow us to become more aware of the life force within the body, leading us to the deeper yoga practices of meditation and spiritual inquiry. This class is suitable for all ages and abilities. The style of Yoga Asana practice we teach is usually referred to as Classical Hatha Yoga. The exercises are safe, effective, and adaptable to the individual student. Yoga Meditation is also included in each class. Students with injuries or other limitations are welcome. Please let us know if you have any questions. Below are a few guidelines for these classes. RSVP: Before your first class, please RSVP no later than the day before the class you want to attend. After you've come once, RSVP is appreciated any time before class, either through MeetUp or by phone, text, or email. ONGOING CLASS ATTENDANCE: Yoga Exercise is most effective when practiced regularly. Come as often as you can. WHAT TO BRING: A mat; a thick towel, blanket, or rug; and water. WHAT TO WEAR: Wear comfortable clothing that is easy to move in. Wear layers when it's cold so that you can adjust your clothing as you warm up and cool down. Please refrain from wearing perfume and other fragrances. COST: $15 per class. We accept cash or checks (made out to Yoga Meditation Group). Pay as you go or pay ahead, whatever is easier for you. Yoga Asana and Meditation for kids ages 4-12 and their parents! The class includes traditional yoga asanas for strengthening, stretching, and relaxation combined with imagination and fun! We also include some meditation at the beginning and the end. This is a great sharing time for parents and their children. Bring a towel or mat if you can. No charge. Yoga Nidra (Guided Deep Relaxation)

Yoga Nidra is a timeless practice of deep, guided relaxation. In this class, we will do some gentle exercises to relax the body, and then we will lie down for an extended relaxation. We will begin and end the class with some simple meditation. This class meets monthly, the first Sunday of the month, and is open to adults and teens. RSVP ahead if you can -- either through MeetUp or by phone, text, or email. BRING a mat and a thick towel/blanket/rug to cushion the floor. WEAR comfortable clothing that is easy to move in. Wear layers when it's cold so that you can adjust your clothing as needed. Please refrain from wearing perfume and other fragrances. COST: $10 per class.
