5th and Walnut Street, Harrisburg, PA
Everyone knows The Firebird Fianle and some know The Firebird Suite, but not many are familiar with The Firebird Complete. This 50 minute piece, written as a ballet, is a haunting and exciting as it is a soft ethereal transformation piece. I like both ends of it from the captivating, hold your breath, slow, quiet, mysticism to the rousing spectacular finale.
I will offer up a home theater preview of this event for anyone inner-ested and ba-leeve me, depending on where you sit at the concert, the sound on this home theater version could be better than live.
MARCH MASTERWORKS March 18-19, 2017
Stuart Malina conducts three stunning orchestral masterpieces in March. Debussy’s sensuous and impressionistic Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun set a new course for French music at the end of the 19th century. Strauss’s very different and very Germanic Death and Transfiguration, written just five years earlier, is one of the composer’s glorious tone poems. After intermission, we’ll hear the colorful music that launched Igor Stravinsky’s international career, the complete score to the 1910 ballet, The Firebird.
Debussy: Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun
Strauss: Death and Transfiguration
Stravinsky: The Firebird (Complete 1910 Ballet)
