This ride will be like any other group ride except that it is routed through five established Strava seqments. We will be using those to track our progress in attaining cycling fitness throughout the riding season. Some of us have targeted the National Championship Gran Fondo event in Frederick, MD as a fitness goal for the year, and will be using this series of rides as a tune up for that.

The route has been set up and is a 43.3 mile circuit. It starts and ends in Glen Rock, PA. There are three convenience stores at different points along the route to pick up sports drink or snacks along the way. There is no set time limit for starting or finishing the loop, as cue sheets will be available for you to self guide. Lightly travelled quiet back roads are used to the maximum extent possible.

In that 43.3 miles with 3480 feet of climbing. There are five Strava seqments included in the loop. The Strava segment names are included if you want to get a preview of the elevation profiles:

Segment #1 - 1.5 miles in length. Name: "GFTR Bonnair" Generally flat or slightly downhill with one significant "bump" in the middle.

Segment #2 - 1.2 miles Name: "GFTR West Sieling" Rolling terrain. Usually has a tailwind if the wind blows at all.

Segment #3 - 1.4 miles Name: "GFTR South Ruhl" Short sharp climb to begin transitioning quickly to rolling terrain.

Segment #4 - 0.6 miles Name: "GFTR Gunpowder Climb" - Pure climb out of Gunpowder Valley

Segment #5 0.9 miles Name: "GFTR Brodbecks" Slight uphill grade to begin. Transitions to flat with a quick turn and short climb right near the end.

You have the option to join www.strava.com and let Strava time you through the segments or you may time yourself. Each segment will be marked at beginning and end.

Afterwards we will all get together at Mignano's for some well deserved pizza and see how we all did. This is NOT a competition event, just a training ride. So it is totally optional to share your efforts with others or keep them private. We plan to run these the first weekend of each month leading up to the big event in Frederick in late August. Should be fun!
