Stand up paddling and Kayaking

UPDATED on Friday 24th - Please Read

We are going with http://www.westwindsailing.com/ since they are right by the beach and parking. $25 for SUP and $20 for kayaks per hour. Ill try to get it cheaper but we are paying a little more since they have the best location. Rent for 2 hours and its $40 and $35 respectively.

For WET SUIT RENTALS - Please rent at the dive shop nearby at Beach Cities Scuba -

http://www.beachcitiesscuba.com/store-locations/

which is right on PCH on the way to the pier. Or you can rent at any other location of your choice.

Lets meet by the park benches by the parking lot at 9.30am SHARP. Its earlier to get better parking and higher likelihood of rental availability. We can then get the rentals payment with westwind which is located by the beach on the left side.

There will be a short lesson on SUP's and kayaks by the beach at 10.15am.

NO LAST MINUTE FLAKES PLEASE SINCE I AM RESERVING !

-------------------------

Dana point has a very calm cove which is ideal for beginner stand up paddlers and kayakers. Its a nice workout and we can have some nerdy competitive fun while doing it too. The rental costs will be $25 an hour for SUP and $20 an hour for Kayaks but if we get enough people to sign up, I am sure I can negotiate to get a much better deal. In your RSVP please state your preference for SUP or kayak.

Wear sandals, workout clothes or wetsuit in case you are uncoordinated enough to fall into the water (i.e. me). Sun glasses and sun screen is recommended if you burn easily (i.e. not me).

Ill confirm the precise address by Thursday once the rental shop has been selected.

Here is one of the rental shops - http://www.danapointjetski.com/index.php

There are 14 SUP and 21 kayaks for rental. There are wet suits for rental as well. Recommend that you rent wet suits if you have never stand up paddled before.

Attendance policy will be in effect since the group rate will assume that you show up.

I actually tried to make it, but got going kinda late (forgot about the time change to 9:30), wasn't sure which benches to look for, couldn't tell where the rental shop was, and didn't see any open parking spots, so I gave up after 15 minutes of circling the parking lot! Sorry!

Thanks Paul you are a great help..
Sri does this mean it is not guaranteed that we can do SUP that day or only not sure for the newly added spots?

    Woo hoo :D
I don't mind paying the full price and I'll even do a tandem. Just let me know as soon as you can and thank you.

Joking aside, if you have never done SUP before, get a wetsuit. The water is about 58-60F so its not that cold especially with the sun. I have 3 additional wetsuits similar size as Paul in case its needed.

Melissa - I added some more spots but since no booking has occurred, I cant guarantee availability just yet. I have sent the request in but no confirmation just yet.

Nikita, you bet! I'm about 5'8-5'9, so it might be a little long, but I'll bring my 4/3 (thick winter suit) with a hood, and it'll be much warmer than no wettie. I'll bring my old 3/2 (not quite as warm), and a 2 mil vest (warmer than nothing) as well. I should add too that I wasn't trying very hard not to fall in cuz I really like the ocean. And since you called it you've got first dibs :-)

hello Paul could I try on your old wetsuit? I usually wear women size XS or 2... I am 5'6. I don't want to fall into freezing water either but it seems to be hard to predict !

Way stoked on this idea! I've been surfing for awhile and always meaning to get into this for those days when the waves/weather/people aren't cooperating. PS I've tried it once and did fall in. I can bring a couple extra older Medium/short wetsuits if anyone wants to see if they fit.

If I try the SUP how likely is it that I will end up in the water? (I don't like water.)
