Zen Buddhist practice cultivates present moment awareness and encourages us to ask what it means to be human and how we live our lives. The sangha is led by Debra Seido Martin, a teacher in the Dharma Cloud lineage and affiliated with Dharma Rain Zen Center in Portland.
Our welcoming group meets weekly in Eugene, and seasonally at the Empty Field Zendo on a local organic farm. Typical weekly sittings include two zazen (meditation) periods, walking meditation, service, dharma talk & discussion, and an optional chance to socialize at the closing.
In the meditation space (zendo), there are chairs as well as cushions and benches available. Newcomers are welcome. If it's your first time attending, we offer a 20 minute introduction at 7 - 7:20 PM - just let the greeter know you're interested.
In addition to weekly meeting, we offer retreats, special events, and study groups throughout the year. You are welcome to participate as much or as little as is appropriate for your time constraints and level of interest.
With palms together,
7:00 PM: period of meditation for 20 minutes (Newcomers offered optional additional instruction during this period.)
7:20PM: period of walking meditation for 10 minutes
7:30PM: period of meditation for 15 minutes (this is an entry point where it's OK to come in and sit if you didn't arrive at 7)
7:45 PM: service for 10 minutes
8PM: Dharma talk and discussion
