From the Introduction to A Course In Miracles:
"This is a course in miracles. It is a required course. Only the time you take it is voluntary. Free will does not mean that you can establish the curriculum. It means only that you can elect what you want to take at a given time. The course does not aim at teaching the meaning of love, for that is beyond what can be taught."
"It does aim, however, at removing the blocks to the awareness of love's presence, which is your natural inheritance. The opposite of love is fear, but what is all-encompassing can have no opposite. This course can therefore be summed up very simply in this way: "
Nothing real can be threatened.
Nothing unreal exists.
Herein lies the peace of God.
A Course In Miracles (ACIM) (http://acim.org/) is a book channeled by Jesus through a Jewish Professor Helen Schucman in the 1970's. It is a self-study curriculum aimed at overthrow the dogmas, falsehoods, half-truths that had grown up around the teachings of Jesus.
If you are a Christian and like Jesus' message, but could not stomach church's dogmas or theology, then this book is ideal for you. This book has sold over 2 million copies over last several decades. There are many study groups and websites devoted to it. It is a very dense, sometimes difficult book to understand. This is why joining a study group will greatly help your study effort.
The Montgomery ACIM Study Group (http://www.meetup.com/acim-268/) was founded in 2007. I have been participating the group since the founding. We are looking forward to see new members joining us in the journey of spiritual growth.
The format of this study group will be:
1.) Five minutes of sitting in silence or meditation with spiritual music.
2.) Read a "randomly" picked lesson that might be relevant to our lives.
3.) Read and discuss several sections of the Text.
If anyone has any issues or "challenges" at home or at work that she would like the rest of us to hear or apply the lesson of the Course to it, she is very welcome to bring it up.
Please bring your book, if you have one.
You can park your car in the Parkade beside the Library building. You have two hours free parking if you validate your ticket in the library.
