Taste chocolate for a good cause!
Event producer: Global Giving Circle
All proceeds will benefit Project Hope & Fairness, a US based 501(c)(3) organization which supports African cocoa farmers and their families. The goal is to raise $5,000 so we can pay for a well to be built in one of the villages and a few scales used to weigh the cocoa. Scales are significant because farmers are often cheated by the middlemen who typically weigh the cocoa away from the villages. We will be sampling...

Global Giving Circle raised $4,500 from mostly single ticket donations. The money was sent to Project Hope and Fairness to build a well in the village of Broguhe in the Ivory Coast and 2 scales in the villages of Abekro and Pezoan. PH&F's founder Tom Neuhaus reports, "The Cocoa farmers and their families are ecstatic... every time they pump the water, they will know that someone cares." Thank you from Shana with the Global Giving Circle!

It was a successful fund raising event in that lots of people showed up. Chocolate was abundant and fresh plates were circulating at all time. With all that said, the place was too small for the number of attendees. Bonbon trays don't travel too far from the preparation station, and one had to pass through walls of people from one table to another reaching for different kinds of chocolate.

I felt like a sardine in a tiny subway car at 5:30 p.m. in Times Square. I could hardly get to any chocolate. Bad planning/execution.

The idea is great, and not organized directly by the meetup group, but the set up was awful. Not enough space and no one providing info about each product.
