About the future of the NY Metro Discover Chocolate Metup Group

From: Clay G.

I just took a look and the 2nd anniversary of the group was this past April. Coincidentally, April played host to the last Meetup for this group.

There are too many reasons to list for why I have not been in touch since then but the most important is that I am spread way too thin - there is just too much on my plate to do and organizing Meetups is one of the things that has fallen by the wayside.

I have taken a part of the summer to assess where I am headed with my business and I have had to make some frankly painful decisions. Among them has been choosing what things are not returning (monetarily) the investment in time and other resources I have been devoting to them. From a personal perspective, organizing the Meetup has been a great success as I have met a lot of fabulous people and made many new friends.

Organizing and managing this Meetup group is one of the things that I have decided I no longer have the time to do well. So, I will be stepping down as organizer of the group in early September. If anyone wants to take over as organizer I am more than willing to make the handoff. Taking over as organizer does require the payment of a quarterly fee to Meetup. If no one steps up to take over the group it will be shut down.

ON THE OTHER HAND, I have created a new group over on TheChocolateLife.com - the Tastings group. Every TCL member is invited to join (both are free, of course). Within the group I want to encourage members to organize their own "tasting clubs" - whether there are 3 people or 30 people - and help members help each other to make them successful. Here's the group's direct URL:

http://www.thechocolatelife.com/group/tastings

(To join the group you must first join TheChocolateLife.com.)

One of the great successes of the Meetup group is that several very tight groups of friends have developed over the course of two years and at least one of those groups has organized some tastings on their own. Those tastings provided the inspiration to form the Tastings group on TheChocolateLife.com.

As a part of encouraging the formation of tasting clubs, I have opened up the Events section of TheChocolateLife.com to members to announce their tastings. The Events section even has RSVP lists (though, like Meetup, there is no waiting list functionality). EVERY member of TheChocolateLife is encouraged to post a notice of their events - as long as it has something to do with chocolate.

I encourage everyone who is interested in continuing to stay in touch to become a member of TheChocolateLife community before the end of August if you have not already done so.

Yours in pursuit of the best chocolate,
:: Clay
PS. Please message me if you are interested in becoming the organizer of this group.
