Greetings from NY Independent Publishing Meetup Group!

Hi everyone!

I’m the co-founder of a small children’s publishing company and volunteered to be the organizer for this Meetup group now that Paulo is unavailable because I consider this to be a very exciting time for small publishers and self-published authors, and would hate to see this group fall apart. There are so many new trends in digital publishing and opportunities for writers that I think everyone working in this space, professionally or as an amateur, could benefit from idea-swapping and networking on a regular basis.

While I know this is an especially busy time of year for everyone, I would love to organize a holiday event to meet you all and find out how to make membership with this group valuable for everyone.  If you have a moment, please drop me a line to introduce yourself and let me know what kind of meet-ups would benefit you most.

  • Are you a writer, editor, illustrator or publisher?
  • Have you published previously, or are you working on your first release?
  • Are your efforts focused primarily on print or digital?
  • Would meet-ups about new e-book technologies be helpful for you?
  • Would meet-ups about the general business of publishing, from ISBN codes to building a relationship with the ABA be helpful for you? Legal workshops for contractual information that publishers need to know?
  • Are you mostly interested in networking and meeting people in the biz?
  • Are weeknights or weekends better for you? And if there’s an area of Manhattan or Brooklyn that’s easiest for you to reach, please let me know.
  • PS – is anyone attending FutureBook in London the first week of December?

Thanks, and I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving. Also, if anyone has a strong interest in helping to organize events, let me know. I'd like to aim to have at least one meetup per month if members are able to attend.
