Hiking Hohtuhrli

  • Jul 27, 2013 · 7:15 AM

Dear All,

The idea would be to hike Hohtuhrli - the pass that connects Griesalp with Kandersteg. We will be hiking towards the SAC hut Blumlisalp at 2800 meters and then descent towards the beautiful Oeschinensee and take the train back from Kandersteg. The hike starts at Griesalp at 1400 meters and goes up via Bundalp towards 2800 meters, so 1400 meters ascent and then there is 1500 meter descent towards Oeschinensee and Kandersteg. If we feel tired at the end, then about 600 meters downhill can be saved by taking cable-car from Oeschinensee towards Kndersteg. The hike should take somewhere between 7 and 8 hours (excluding lunch) depending on speed, number of spots.

We will take the 7.32 am train in Zurich hb (unfortunately no earlier trains available), arrive in bern at 8.32 am, depart 8.39 am and arrive in reichenbach in kandertal at 9.19 am. Here we will take the bus at 9.27 am arriving in Griesalp at 10.12 am when we will start our hike. If we wanted to avoid the sun and start hiking earlier we would have to take the 5am train departing zurich and arriving at 8.12 am in Griesalp, however most people would not make

that time.

IMPORTANT

* The organizer is not responsible for any bodily injury or other accidents that might happen during the hike. By signing up on this activity, the participants agree that the organizer will not be held responsible in any way. Although the hike is not complicated, it is each individual responsibility to ensure that they can do the hike and check out the trail.

* Since buses have to be reserved, and in case of no show I as organizer will be charged, therefore it is important that if you sign up, you effectively come. For any cancellation 72 hours before the hike, a falt amount of 10 francs will be charged.

* To bring along : hiking boots, rain gear, water, snack, lunch ( I suggest we take lunch on the trails), smile, positive attitude, suncream

* In case there is lots of rain, storm etc. then of course this hike does not take place

Looking down and encouraging our hikers! This well made and maintained staircase leads to the Hohtürli Pass. The ascent takes about 20 minutes. Tired quadriceps, a heart full of accomplishment and a pat on the back await you at the top!
