OWIN, Katana, One ASP.NET… uhm… what?

In this talk I will give a introduction to the current OWIN spec and the goals behind it. Of course we will cover the “Katana”-Project and how it is related to the One ASP.NET Story. If you are a web developer on the Microsoft platform and want to know more about it’s future this might be interesting for you.

Speaker: My name is Robert Muehsig and I live in the near of Wil, SG and I´m a developer at the small company OneOffixx AG in Eschlikon. I really like to develop new stuff on the Microsoft-Technology-Stack and love the Web and therefor I´m a ASP.NET MVP. If you want to know more about me visit my German (http://code-inside.de/blog/) or English (http://code-inside.de/blog-in/) blog or follow me on Twitter @robert0muehsig.

On the way home I realized the application that was demonstrated was indeed an MVC5 application. In this webcast http://channel9.msdn.com/Events/Build/2013/2-546 MVC5 is demonstrated. MVC5 is worth looking at because it does not need a server MSI, the assemblies needed to make MVC5 work have been moved into the .Net Assemblies that are deployed as part of a website. Also the code has been simplified and there are a number of other useful features built in.

Interesting Topic. If you have never heard of OWIN, it was very hard to figure out, what OWIN is made for. Robert did not explain very good, what OWIN actually defines. I will have to create a selfhost sample to get a feeling for how to use OWIN/Katana.

Sorry that I couldn't tell you it more precisely. Another attendee told my that the "Why OWIN/Benefits of OWIN" was not that clear. If you have an hour have a look at this Channel 9 video: http://channel9.msdn....

I will write a blogpost with all my resources + presentation + samples and I hope this will answer your questions. Next time I will try better to solve it via the presentation upfront ;)
