Beautiful Hiking in Val Tuors towards Keschhuette

  • Aug 11, 2012 · 6:30 AM

Dear All,

Are you tired of watching (swimming at) the Olympics? Then this could be an alternative.

The idea is to do a beautiful hike around Keschhuette from Chants back to Chants which takes 4,5 hours (excluding stops and meals). The idea is to have lunch at the keschhuette; which is situated at 2,625 meters above sea level. The hut will probably be reached around 1pm, so for those who cant wait and are hungry before, I suggest you bring some snacks along.

The idea is to do following hike : Chants- Val da ravai- ravai seen- sella da ravai- val dal tschuvel- keschhuette -chants- Bergun. The hike from chants to chants is 17 kilometer and 920 meters height difference. The distance from chants to Bergun is another 7km which can be done by those who are still fit, the others can take the bus. The 20 kilometer hike is "sportlich" and easily feasible for seasoned hikers. Although the hike is not difficult or technically complicated, I would not recommend the hike to people who never do sports or only recently started hiking since we are hiking around the altitude of 2000 meters and maintain a certain speed.

We will start the hike in Chants around 9.40 am . In order to get there the following trains are available:

Zurich hb - departure at 6.37 am arrival at 7.52 chur (train)

chur departure at 7.58 am arrival at 9.13 am in Bergun (train)

bergun departure at 9.15 am arrival at 9.32 am in Chans

PS: if these hours are too early for some of you, then you might want to consider staying overnight the evening before

We will take the train back from Bergun at 16.47 arriving at 19.23 in Zurich

Please note that I need to advise the Keschhuette in advance if a larger group is coming, so they can prepare themselves with food. Hence please sign up early so that we can give estimate to the warden of the hut as to how many will be coming.

To bring along:

* Smile, laughter, good mood;

* Sturdy walking shoes

* Raingear (weather can change at all times in the mountains)

* Water and snacks

* Suncream

PS- Please note that this hike will not take place if it is raining cats and dogs. On thursday evening I should be able to confirm whether or not this hike takes place as planned.

    Just wanted to make sure that all the adventurous people who followed Martin made it sound and safe back home. Given that there was no cellular connection, we were getting concerned.

    Hi Patrick,

    all good. It was nothing adventurous people should be afraid to do:-) Actually found 3 pics documenting our hurdle. Unfortunately dont have more as I was struggling with maintaining balance (and Guillaume's ouzo is innocently in this). Vaclav

    I received about 14 answers, i.e. 10 times option B, 3 option A and 1 option C so I have almost 30 people who did not respond, so I guess we will have to see what is available tomorrow on the hut.

    Dear All, I have re/opened the site for editing your attendance. Sarah, Zsolt and others you are welcome to attend.

    Trains have been reserved for the group (under meet up name), usually we have a wagon all the way in the front. May I ask Liliane, Guillaume and&or others to help everyone make it to Bergun. I can no longer join you from zurich onwards, but will join in Bergun.

    Hi Patrick, my 2 guests have just canceled their participance, but I don't know how to change it here as it's blocked. I will come for sure and I'm for option B in the menu :)

    August 9, 2012

  • Guillaume

    Hello Patrick, B) Alplermacaroni mit Apfelmus für mich, bitte ;)

    August 9, 2012

  • Patrick

    The hut has confirmed that it is OK if we come by with 40 persons. In order to speed up the time needed for service food for a large group, they asked us whether we could choose from>

    a) soup with bread (7 francs)
    b) alplermaccaroni with apfelmus (16 francs)
    c) spaghetti with tomato sauce (12 francs)

    I am not sure whether everyone will read this message before saturday, but if you do and choose between options A till C I will pass the consolidated numbers to the hut by friday evening at latest.

    Sorry. My blister from the last hike hasn't recovered. Love to have been able to attend but just can't. Enjoy!

    August 9, 2012

  • Patrick

    I have now closed this meet up to new YES registrations to avoid having an overly large group.

  • Martin

    I just called the hut and got it confirmed that it technically possible and "easy" (=read: no special equipment required) to climb both Piz Murtelet and Piz Forum. So let me know if you feel fit enough for another 500m up and 400 down.

    Let me mention that I have just seen that 38 folks clicked and said they were coming. Please remember about the fact that this hut HAS TO BE INFORMED ACCORDINGLY ABOUT THE NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS. So be respectful to them and the organiser and update your status accordingly if the situation changes.

      Hi again, do we go via Keshhütte or via Sella da Ravais? http://map.geo.admin....

      August 7, 2012

    • Martin

      As I understood, Patrick goes via Sella da Ravais, so I would follow him until there and start climbing Murlet first. It's a way, which I asked about when called Keschhütte and was told that it was OK. Coming another way around is also possible, but then you're a bit early in the hut, having all the work-out for the evening...

      August 7, 2012

  • Martin

    the group is getting a bit too big... I might lead an alternative route via Piz Murtelet. Details eventually on Sat morning when I learn the ascent.
