Brief Description
Day 6 of the Jura Ridgeway. From Oberdorf station we take the rather quaint old fashioned wooden chairlift up to the Weissenstein. From the top of the Weissenstein we continue our walk climbing up to the Hassenmatt with views over the Mittelland and the lakes of Biel, Neuchatel and Murten. The route then descends down to M?ren and the ascends up to the Stallflue. From here we carry on along the ridgeway with views of the Chasseral (our next peak!). The long descent down to Frinvillier starts and we also cross the language border and head into French Switzerland.. Look out for the Chemin des cretes signs which replance the H?henweg ones. From Frinvillier there are hourly trains to Zurich via Biel/Bienne. For anyone who does wish to shorten the hike, there are a few options to finish along the way at Untergrechenberg, Stierenberg and Plagne though connections may be infrequent.

More Info here

Note that I am combining parts of two hikes as we start stage 6 from Weissenstein and not Oberbalmberg as per link and we will finish stage 7 at Frinvillier and not Orvin

Tickets - I have a GA so I do not need to purchase a ticket however for those who need to purchase tickets on the day, I believe there is a cheaper group option though I am not sure on the details of how many people are needed to qualify for a group discount. Maybe someone can enlighten me! For the moment I would advise that if we arrive at the meeting point on time then this should allow for us to sort it out then. For further hikes I'm sure we can plan ahead much better!! Apologies for my ignorance on the matter!

Recommended to bring along:
- sun/wind/rain protection (wind jacket, sun cream, glasses, hat etc)
- hiking boots recommended
- lunch (sandwich, chocolate etc.)
- water (at least 1 litre )
- basic first aid kit (I will be carrying one but it is always useful to have extra)
- maps of the area are also useful to bring if you have them
- camera
- a cheerful disposition and plenty of enthusiasm!

Disclaimer and small print

I reserve the right to cancel the hike at anytime if weather conditions or any other factors that may affect the safety of the group arise:

- be it before the event
- on the day of the event before the agreed start time
- or during the hike itself

In the event of a cancellation I will try to give as much notice as I can but please check the site the morning of the hike BEFORE you leave home. Weather conditions can change quickly and the decision to cancel may be sudden.

Everyone who takes part in the hike does so at their own risk

Each participant is responsible to ensure they have adequate health insurance and any other insurances that may be required

Whilst all care will be taken to keep the group together it may at times become necessary to split up due to pace, safety, or if someone needs to retire from the hike due to medical reasons.

OK so thats all the information, lets get hiking! I look forward to seeing you for day 6.
