RE: [zydecophoenix] Cajun Zydeco Festivals....

Larry:  You need to go to a full blown Cajun Zydeco festival, I would look at Ninigret in Rhode Island over Labor Day—there are workshops on the music, music jam sessions for people who are not the performers but want to play the music; and so many great bands from Louisiana and other places—that will get you pumping. There is a festival in Long Beach in June, and on in Connecticut (Strawberry) in June as well. Portland has blues and zydeco over the 4th of July. San Diego just had one as well. And the big mecca for the music and dance of course if Louisiana, with multiple festivals in Lafayette through the year, but Festival Acadiens one of my favorites. Helle Brand

Maybe two or three years ago I attended I attended this event in Camp Verde. It was the best mud bug & Cajun zydeco event I ever attended. The eats were great, But the band at taht time impressed me so much T started to take an intrest in the 'rubboard' I which I am now putting together. As a result I am looking to learn more from a band, and get involved in like activities since I am retired, and love the food and music. Can someone lead me to the water as I shall do the rest My new email is ( [address removed] ) Thanx Larry Tripp

Hi all you yummy zydeco dancers,

YES, I am definitely interested in going to this event, as well, and would love more info - where is Camp Verde, days and hours of event, costs, bands, details, etc.

I just recently relocated from Portland, Oregon and currently live in Surprise and would LOVE to get some regular zydeco dances going.  Would anyone be interested in this?  Does anyone actually live out near me?  I know most folks are east of here - if I found a spot in the Arrowhead area, would folks come?  Would anyone be interested in helping me get this going?  Since I'm completely new to the area, I'm not really sure where to look first!

THANKS, :-)  Cheri

Hi, JP—I saw the poster for the event while I was up in Cottonwood yesterday. Dancers should know that the rest of the day is not Cajun Zydeco music, but a general festival for fun. I hope to be able to get up there at least Saturday night—see you there!  Helle Brand

Hey Greg,

In the upcoming department, maybe you could put this out for me. I'm not up on all the tricks of getting a note out to the Meetup people.

Coming June 2nd, Camp Verde is trying to bring back their Crawdad Festival. In the past, it had gotten up to a 3 day event on Friday nite, Saturday, & Sunday. Then about 4 or 5 years ago, it went down. Now, Bill Lee, owner of a pizza bar called the Salt Mine Cellars, is trying to get it going again with a one night event to see if it'll fly.

He's hired Black Leather Zydeco (my band, don't you know) to provide the evening's dance music and he's bringing in a mess of crawdads from Louisiana for the boil. If we could get a bunch of the Phoenix Meetup dancers in the house, I'm sure it would be a big help to the event.

Thanks,

J.P.
