For this event, we're highlighting the impact that design and development have on individuals with disabilities. In a hybrid panel, demonstration format, individuals with varying disabilities will demonstrate the challenges they face when interacting with web sites and mobile apps, as well as highlight some of the successes encountered. The hope is, attendees will gain accessibility-related insight and empathy that can be taken back to their digital projects.

Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) is an annual event whos purpose is to get everyone talking, thinking and learning about digital (web, software, mobile, etc.) access/inclusion and people with different disabilities. For it's sixth year, GAAD is being selected around the world. Learn more about Global Accessibility Awareness Day:

Note the change of venue: The host is Accenture, the event will be held at their 'Digital Hub' at 500 W Madison St, Floor 22. This is the Citigroup building. Entrance is on Madison St., just off of Canal St. Access to the third floor check in security desk is available via escalators through the main doors off Madison. Elevators are available off to the west of the escalators.

Fantastic. Panelists shared with us how they "see/hear" through digital interfaces and the significant challenges they face, and how they overcome them.

Should have this type of event more often - so people have more time to present

We'll be starting at 6:30pm ending around 7:30pm. Informal roundtable demo/discussion with individuals with disabilities, show & tell on issues they encounter and successes they've experienced. Beyond that, we're still finalizing, but that is the high level agenda at this time.

How about doing some hangout/skype/tweet thing to join all the other accessibility groups that day that have a GAAD event? 😎

We're actually working with meetups in Austin TX and Denver/Boulder CO to do just that. There's logistical challenges, but we hope to hook up in some ways. Stay tuned for more details soon.
