Please join us for some light (or heavy) hiking on Saturday. This will be like last week but less icy.
If you're an experienced backpacker, tell me where I should go this summer. If you're curious about backpacking, ask some questions. All are welcome. If you just want to go for a walk, come on out!
I'm going to wear my pack this time. If you already have a multi-day backpack, load it up and strap it on. Hiking with your pack is the only way to get used to the weight. Put in whatever you have, a case of water, old books and blankets, etc... Heavy items should be loaded as high and far forward as possible, see this link:
Also, see my backpacking post on the discussion board. This is a good place to ask questions or let people know about a deal on a used pack:
We'll meet at Bivouac, upstairs where the backpacks and sleeping bags are. After ogling some gear for a few minutes, head out to the sidewalk. At 11:15 we'll head out, north across the river, then west into Nichols Arboretum. Exiting to the south, we'll head back to town and have lunch. The loop is about 4 miles, should take 1.5-2 hours.
This is the route: http://files.meetup.com/1185092/Hike_Ann_Arbor_1.pdf
Later I'll plan some 6.2 mile and 10-15 mile practice hikes.
We'll go to Madras Masala again for lunch unless someone has another idea. We can discuss on the trail and call ahead.
Please allow time for parking. I suggest the structure on Maynard, or Liberty Square. Call if you're running a few minutes late. [masked]
