SMLC's Annual Bat Count and Campfire at the Farm

  • Jul 12, 2014 · 7:00 PM
  • The Conservancy Farm

Come out and take part in the annual counting of bats living in the Conservancy Farm barn. Over each of the past five years, we've counted around 100 Big Brown Bats flying out of the barn where they sleep during the day, emerging at dusk to fly off into LeFurge Woods Nature Preserve for their nightly insect hunt. The more eyes watching, the more accurate our count will be. As the sky darkens, we'll see fireflies by the hundreds light up the surrounding fields.

Everyone is welcome - bring friends and family. Kids are especially welcome. Please, no pets. We'll have some chairs available but you can bring your own lawn chairs. A blanket and pillows are a good way to watch, too. Be prepared for mosquitoes and evening temperature drop. Donations to support the Conservancy will be welcome.

For further information, please contact Jason Martinez ([masked] /[masked]).

Hi, Are citronella candles allowed, ad will there be access to a bathroom with running water?

Angela.. my apologies I thought I replied. The farm area has an outhouse (actually a port-a-pottie). The farm house has running water but I am not sure it will be open that evening (but somebody there should have keys). Its a large open space and citronella candles will not be effective... if bugs are around bug spray will be more effective.

No worries. Thanks for the reply. I usually triple up on the bug repellent methods. For some reason, I am exceptionally delicious to them. Bug spray is never enough. Sitting with candles would have been in addition to spray & clip on.
