This NPR article and discussion are an interesting, easy read. It relates research that finds typical adults tend to be relatively unaware of the specific ways and extents to which they have changed in the past, and tend to think they will remain essentially as they are into the future. It has to do with a number of things going on with memory and cognitive biases.
