What we're about

Activate Mental Health is a dynamic mental health initiative that promotes the importance of community & social connection for positive mental health & wellbeing. Established in 2016 as the Perth Active Depression Support Group, the group has grown and continues to assist its members in improving their mental health through dynamic social activities.

The group has three fundamental principles:

Acceptance – we provide a safe and inclusive environment for our members to be socially engaged irrespective of their background,

Community – we endeavour to give each and every one of our members and volunteers a community to belong to and friends to connect with, &

Fun – we keep things fun because they say laughter is the best medicine!

This group generally operates in the central areas of Perth, with events usually taking places in the councils of Stirling, Bayswater, Cambridge, Vincent, Cottesloe, Claremont, Nedlands, Subiaco, Perth, South Perth, Victoria Park, Belmont, Mosman Park, Peppermint Grove, Fremantle, East Fremantle, Melville & Canning. We may occasionally operate out of these areas, but it most likely will be an exception rather than the norm.

Hyde Park walk and coffee

Hyde Park

It’s been a while since I have hosted a walk and coffee around the stunning Hyde Park. Let’s meet at the corner of Glendower and Palmerston streets, which features a roundabout, and do 3 laps of the lake. Afterwards we can stop at the food trucks available and grab a coffee and chill in the shade. Why should you come to this event? Sunset Cottesloe beach walk

Il Lido Italian Canteen

Given that we’re in December which features the longest days of the year I thought I would do a beach sunset walk. We will start from Cottesloe beach and walk our way to Swanbourne beach, before turning around and walking back to Cottesloe. The sunset is scheduled to occur at 7:09pm. Please bring light footwear as we may walk on the sand on the way up before walking on the footpaths on the way back. Meet at the front or Il Lido cafe. Why should you come to this event? Evening games and coffee

Dôme Café - East Victoria Park

This event started of as just a small event, but the format has proven to be quite a popular format so I have decided to keep it as a fixture every 2 weeks on a Tuesday night and have got the assistance of Andrew as a cohost to allow us to run 2 small groups instead of one big one. In this meetup I will bring the following games: 1) The art of conversation (conversation cards, it's not a game but merely a way to get to know one another) 2) Sequence (think connect 4 meets playing cards) 3) Uno 4) Monopoly deal (card version of monopoly, takes 20 minutes to play) 5) Cards against humanity 6) Joking Hazard 7) Man bites dog 8) Blokus 9) Standard playing cards I’d encourage people to bring their own games if possible to encourage variety at these nights. This meetup is limited to 12 people as I am only bringing these games and I don't want to overload the venue with too many guests. We'd love to see you there. Why should you come to this event? Pot Black Family Pool and Snooker Centre North Perth

Let’s meet at Pot Black North Perth and play a few games of pool. We can do either 8 ball pool, 15 ball pool or Kelly pool. Afterwards if anyone is up for it we can go to the Rosemount to have a drink. This night normally costs between $5-$10 per person to play depending on the time taken and number of tables purchased (usually use 2). Please bring cash of this amount to settle the bill at the end.
