Please describe the dog(s) you own: name, breed, age, sex, etc... so we can get to know a little more about our new pack member(s)!

Our only dog is Truman, a Heinz 57 mutt (the best kind! We think he's part Schnauzer, part Cairn Terrier). He's about a year and a half old and has boundless energy.

What are you looking for in a trail club? Describe what you hope to get out of the group and what can you contribute to the group.

I'd like to have some people to go on hikes with in general. It's something that I enjoy but could benefit greatly from people that have more experience than I do. I also know very little about taking a dog with me, and would enjoy the company and assistance.

What does your ideal day outdoors involve? Please give the name and location of your favorite local hike or walk and describe the trail for us. Is it rocky, is there much elevation change, does it involve water, etc...

Waking up fairly early and getting to the trailhead. A variety of elevation—not all uphill one way and downhill the other. Having a goal—whether it's a peak with a great vista or a historic site—is critical. It's good to have a good picnic point, too, whether you can stick your feet in the water or sit down and enjoy the breeze for a moment. I also value multiple trails with a similar beginning/end point to allow for camping and multiple days of hiking without lugging around all the equipment.

Have you and your dog(s) earned any titles or are you working towards any titles? Agility, Canine Good Citizen (CGC), working dog, pack dog, water dog, therapy dog, etc... ???

Not at the moment! He's a year to a year and a half, and we'd like to get him in something like that, as he has a lot of energy and is pretty smart.

Moved into the DC area in May. My fiance is moving up in June 2013 with our dog, Truman. We're both pretty outdoorsy and would like to get back into hiking—and these will be our first hikes with the pup in tow.
