We will be building a playground in one day!

7:30AM- 4pm
Monday April 22
36 volunteers needed

Hi, a few details changed.

START TIME - 7:30AM.  BREAKFAST will be served!!!!yeah!

Finish Time- 4:00

Parking- 5251 Marietta Ave, LV, NV  89108 This is lot right north of building, so go there first to park. Major construction on Vegas Drive, so allow a little extra time.

FULL SHIFT ONLY- If you can not work the full shift, please change your rsvp. Due to training and assignments people can not come and go.

TOOLS Needed- 4 hammers, 1 tamp, 7 spade shovels,  20 hard metal rakes and  4 cordless and  5 regular drills.

This event is hosted by Jeff Hagen (AOK). Jeff's cell[masked] phone or text.

From looking at the plans this is going to be really fun. There is a professional build team that does 100's of these and we are their support. Everything is timed out, and happens to the print. I looked at lot today, and its bare, but come Monday things are going to happen really fast, so by the end of the day it is going to be a playground. That YOU built! Take some pictures before and after...

Earth Day: You can tell your Grandkids that You built a playground in 1 Day! Oh, the story you can tell when you join us!
We will be building a playground in one day! Tasks vary from assembling picnic tables and equipment to laying out a bocce ball court. Something for everybody to do.
Lunch will be provided.
Location:

KaBOOM Playground Build Day

Monday - April 22, 2013

~A Day in
DSOSN History

that We will Forever Remember~

It's finally here -

the day we have

all been anxiously waiting for!

The link below is what our playgound is going to

look like when it is finished. This design was

created and voted on by DSOSN parents and children.

Playground Option A

DSOSN is still in need of "loaned" tools to help build the playground.  If you have any of the tools listed below that

you would be willing to loan us to build the

playground, please get in touch with us.

The tools we still need are:

4 hammers, 1 tamp, 7 spade shovels,  20 hard metal rakes and  4 cordless and  5 regular drills.

MORE INFORMATION DETAILS BELOW!!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED to HELP BUILD THE KABOOM PLAYGROUND

If you would like to still volunteer to help with the playground, we need and welcome you. Volunteers must commit to work an entire shift and be at least 18 years of age.  Breakfast and lunch will be provided on all three days. Daycare will be provided.  And all volunteers will be given a DIRECTV t-shirt to wear during their shift.

Because the majority of the DSOSN parking lot will be utilized during the build, parking will be available at 5251 Marietta Ave, LV, NV  89108.  This is the first street directly behind and to the north of DSOSN.  To get there, you would go north on Michael Way and make the first right.  There will be DSOSN designated parking attendant there to direct you to park your car.  Then you can walk back to DSOSN.  We checked and it is a very short walk that we felt did not require paying for shuttle service.  Or you can also go directly to DSOSN and a parking attendant there will be able to direct you to the parking area  on Marietta.  Either way is fine, but as you will see, Vegas Drive in front of DSOSN is undergoing major construction - so we encourage all you can to go directly to the parking site.  If anyone has any problems, they can call DSOSN at[masked] or Deann on her cell at[masked]-9500.  Thank you.

IF YOU HAVE RECRUITED VOLUNTEERS, PLEASE FORWARD THIS ENTIRE EMAIL TO THEM SO THEY

HAVE ALL THESE DETAILS.

The following links are details pertaining to the

schedules and details of all volunteer days:

Click here to download the DIRECTV-DSOSN Build Matrix Details for all 3 days

Click here to download the DIECTCV-DSOSN Run of Show highlighting Build Day Details

Duties that will be assigned are:

Here are what the volunteers will be working on:

Assembling playground pieces

  • Building benches, tables, and other DIY wooden projects
  • Moving mulch
  • Mixing concrete by hand in wheelbarrows

Volunteers are also needed to help direct volunteers where to park, work in the kitchen serving breakfast and lunch, and babysitting.

Volunteers will be randomly assigned when they show up on Monday, but we can accommodate anyone that has specific needs or requests.

Prep Day #1 - Friday - April 19th from 8 am to 4 pm

Prep Day # 2 - Saturday - April 20th from 8 am to 4 pm

Build Day - Monday - APril 22nd from 8 am to 4 pm.

If you can volunteer on one or more of these days, please come to DSOSN at the assigned time and day(s) you can volunteer.  You will be asked at that time to sign a Volunteer Waiver.  Or download the Volunteer Registration Form below and bring it with you.

It was good seeing the amount of people who took the time out, especially on a Monday to help with such an amazing cause. I'm glad Acts of Kindness was there to help make a difference. My son and I had a great time helping out and meeting new people. Mikey, Leslie and I made sure we water kept flowing and cold for everyone needs. Can't wait for the next project.

I understand, you do a lot for AOK and all the groups that depend on the group. I want to thank you for being involved over all the years. I'm really not sure which who I should thank for even getting this posted. If you know, thank them for me. I'm thrilled that this was posted.

Hello! Unfortunately, I have to change my RSVP. I hoped to join w/ my son and a friend as a meaningful way to celebrate Earth Day and community. We are unable to be there at the 7:30 start time & it looks like children won't be able to participate, thus the change in RSVP. Hope to join you all at the next kid-friendly event.

    April 21, 2013

    • Jeff H.

yeah, I understand. I hope to arrange an open play date once it is done. My daughter Jayna isn't going either, but that is good. She can be bossy, she is 5. My wife is on the Board, and she is surprised so many people want to help, on a Monday! I will bug her abput doing an open party once it is completed..I will try and post lots of pictures of the work day.

We need your help, DSOSN got a grant for the goods, now needs some muscle and brains to make it happen. Its going to take many people and will be fun, and you get the knowledge and bragging rights to seeing something built before your eyes. So when you are old you can tell the story of building a playground by yourself on Earth Day 2013. I already have my story, so if you join in you will have your own story too!
