Shopping Helpers

Each day visually impaired men and women enjoy a warm, welcoming environment at The Blind Center of Nevada, and for many, the work opportunity and social activities have become a way of life. The Blind Center strives to create a positive social setting outside the home for individuals who are blind or visually impaired.

At the Blind Center of Nevada, members of the center have the opportunity to go shopping each week for food, clothing and miscellaneous items, assisted by volunteers. For some of the members, this is the only means of transportation to be able to get to a store.

Volunteers: Five dependable helpers from A.O.K. are requested to assist those needing to shop today. Schedule: meet at the Center at 9:00am help serve the morning coffee and have some pleasant chit chat. At 9:30am, (more or less) we accompany the blind and visually impaired to Wal-Mart. Transportation is provided by the Center in their deluxe vans.

Your go to person at The Blind Center is A.O.K. member, Samantha Steele. She is also the Program Manager with the Center.

Volunteer commitment time is 2.5 hours

Thanks so much!

I enjoyed the experience and feel that my contribution of time was appreciated by the 2 people that I guided through Walmart . In addition the small talk I shared at the tables before the bus ride to Walmart spread a bit of sunshine. I recommend this to others in the group.

Hey Keith, thank you for your rsvp. The shuttle will leave from the Blind Center at approximately 9:30. So, you'll just need to arrive before then.

I'd like to attend one of these meetups. but I have a 3 year old. Is this an activity that I can bring him along with me? If so I could participate sometime.

This would not be the kind of event to bring a 3 year old along.
