Paradox Lake and Peaked Hill Hike (Schroon Challenge and day use fee)

Details
A pleasurable leisurely paddle on Paradox Lake followed by an optional hike up Peaked hill. The plan for this trip after leaving the launch is to paddle the shore along the East side of the lake and then to pass through a narrow channel on the north side of the lake. How much of the western end of the lake we explore from here will be up to the group, but this portion of the lake is bigger and more developed, and therefore not as fun. After the paddle we will stop at some rocks on the channel for lunch. From here it’s less than 0.5 miles back to the launch. For those doing the hike this is the trail head. The hike is 4.2 miles round trip with an elevation gain of around 1,000’. This is a State Campground and there is a day use fee of $6 for parking. The boat launch is on the right after entering the park. For those that are interested, this will be the final of three scheduled paddles over the paddling season in the Schroon watershed that make up the Schroon Paddle Challenge. Participants of all three paddles can earn a badge. Registration and associated fees for the challenge are the responsibility of individual members. Registration for the challenge can be found online. Difficulty: Easy-Hard. The paddle willl be flat water with no current. Total paddle distance 7-10 miles. Difficulty for the paddle is easy. The hike is 4.2 miles up and back, with 1,000’ elevation gain, this will change the difficulty to hard. PFDs are required to be worn on all our paddles, a whistle or appropriate sounding device is also required. If you are going to do the hike please pack appropriate footwear, and have plenty of water, also pack a lunch. Watch the weather and dress appropriately, have sun protection. If you will not be doing the hike please let the group leader know before leaving.
