Good Luck Lake Camping - backpacking
Details
Description: originally planned as a paddle, I’ve changed this trip to a backpacking trip. Given the recent and expected cold weather I’m not convinced the water will be liquid if I kept this as a paddle. This will be a three day two night trip into Good Luck Lake with a day trip up Good Luck Cliffs on Thursday. I likely will still bring my Hornbeck in the event the water is still wet and you are encouraged to do the same, with proper safety gear, (please see safety information below) this will primarily be a backpacking trip. Feel free to show up Thursday for the hike, just let me know in advance so that we can coordinate.
Difficulty: Intermediate to hard, the hike into the campsite is relatively flat and about a mile, the hike up the cliffs is only an elevation gain of around 800’, but that’s all in the last 3/4 mile so it is fairly steep. If you bring a boat there may be a beaver dam or two to get over.
Food: The first night dinner is a communal event, I will have brats and buns with sauerkraut, if you want to bring a side or desert feel free, please post in the comments section what you intend to bring. No one is required to participate in the communal dinner. All other meals are the participants responsibility.
Safety: Bring snow shoes and micro spikes for the hike, trekking poles are recommended. This is a cold weather camping trip, you will need cold weather clothing and gear. Bring enough water for the entire trip in case the water is frozen, even if the water is not frozen most filter systems are not rated for below freezing temperatures so be ready to boil or treat your water. Temperatures below 15-20 degrees, freezing rain or high wind will cancel the trip. If you bring a boat PFDs and dry suits are required. Boats are optional if the lake isn’t frozen, and you are welcome to hike or paddle into the campsite, however for safety reasons we will stick together in groups of at least two, meaning if there are only three of us we all hike in or we all paddle in. Again the default will be backpacking.
