Event Rating: Moderately Difficult!!! Due to hills, pace, rugged terrain and darkness.

This week’s Bald Mountain North hike will be on TUESDAY. We’ll hike about 3 hours at a moderate/moderately fast pace on the trails at Bald Mountain North. Total distance will depend on group speed, number and duration of stops, etc., but should be about about 7 to 8-1/2 miles. We'll likely go off the beaten path in a few sections. We'll modify as needed(my call) depending on weather, trail and group conditions.

The route goes by the parking lot after about 3.5/4.0 miles, so those needing to leave early can opt out at that time.

For those interested in the Friday night hikes, this is a good chance to experience a night hike as it is generally easier(wider, more open and less steep trails) than the Bloomer night hike.

Bring a headlamp or flashlight! Although it will be light at the start of the hike, it will be dark before the end of the hike. There are no lights on the trail other than the moon and the stars.

The bugs are out! You may want to bring bug spray and/or wear long sleeves/pants.

Check the forecast and dress for the weather! Layers recommended.

Expect mud, wet/slippery terrain and possible standing water over the route in some sections. Proper footwear(such as waterproof boots) advised! Hiking poles can be helpful in these types of conditions(but not required).

Bring Water and maybe a light snack. We will make a few BRIEF stops during the hike.

Usual disclaimers: Our route is hilly and rugged. We will be climbing steep uphills and descending steep downhills on uneven, loose, wet, possibly wet, muddy, and slippery terrain - with rocks and tree roots. Leaves and branches will be covering the trails and may make footing difficult. It may be necessary to duck under and/or climb over a few fallen trees. We may go off-trail a few times. Wet and muddy conditions are possible. Standing water over some sections of the trail is also possible. Proper Footwear is advised!
