Details of the peak can be found here: http://www.summitpost.org/mount-silliman/151634
Mileage: 10-12 roundtrip in the Sierra.. :) ( Approx 10 miles is cross country aka no trails )
Elevation Gain: 4428
Class 2 friction slabs
The plan is to either do an overnight backpack depending on whether a walk in permit is available OR day hike. Permits are not required on day hikes.
The reason I'm doing this hike is because I'm joining a group for Alta peak on Sat (6/14) and have 2 days off prior.
I am not leading or guiding this hike so everyone should be able to be independent & be able to hike solo if needed since everyone has their own pace while hiking.
The most recent trip report I found is dated 5/11 and the person that climbed indicated there was snow above 9,000 ft. I'm planning on bringing my crampons just in case. I didn't find a lot of info about day hikes.. I guess people usually backpack to this mountain so I will contact whoever signs up to see whether they want a day hike or backpack.
Looking for flexible people that knows how to navigate as well. I'm not a fast hiker. Unfortunately, no beginner backpackers or hikers.
PLAN #1 (DAY HIKE)
6/12 (Thursday) - Get to the Lodgepole Campsite. They have walk in sites available. I spoke to the person at the location and was told there was a good chance to get a spot since it was a weekday.
6/13 (Friday) - Start at 6am. Hike to the summit & back.
PLAN #2 (OVERNIGHT BACKPACK)
6/12 - Get to the Lodgepole Campsite at the agreed starting time and hike to the basecamp. Preferably Silliman Meadow or Lake.
6/13 - Hit the summit then back to the campsite
What is an exploratory hike? A hike I've never done before and we can all get lost..
