Why didn't you guys wait for me? I told Jules I had to go to the bathroom, and would wait for you there. I waited, no one showed, so I went to look for the ledge, found a fork, and was worried I'd get lost, and went back out to the main trail to wait. I sent email, and and waited another half an hour. Finally, I went down by myself, and found that you all had left. Beth

Great hike and good folks, thanks Brent. Always a great workout, and it gets easier each time! And thanks for the fascinating and beautiful off-trail mossy-bald explorations. And nice pix Jules. I like the heart-shaped tree-root branches; woulda been a good one for Valentines' Day. :)

I would love to do this hike. If anyone is familiar and would like to have a second group, I am in. If not, I may look to go to Hurricane Ridge. Am new to the area, but eager to explore and learn!

A few years ago, based on similar questions posed below, I posted a 'group size' message on this group's message board: http://www.meetup.com/adventurers-100/messages/boards/thread/4344166

I would love to join the hike: is anybody willing to carpool? I'll pay $10 to bum a ride with somebody! I live in Wallingford, but am mobile to most parts of Seattle.

There are also certain trails that have group size restrictions and rangers walk the trails to make sure this is enforced. The other reason is what Phil mentioned, to keep it a manageable size so nobody is left behind or gets lost. I did a hike over a year ago where we let over 40 people go and a couple of us started to get lost thinking we were following people in are group and they were not. After that I learned why the group size limitations are important. :) Thankfully we did not get lost, but it was on Rainier and we could have been going for quite a while.

So the onus is on the RVPSed peeps to show ... it's not fair to bail when others who will show, can't come. My 3 cents ...

Charles & Gregg: I've never lead a group here, but it makes it a lot easier to keep people together; like slower & faster peeps on same hike. Unless you have someone who is the designated 'sweeper', we don't like anybody to feel left behind. This is safety in the backcountry.

Anybody else want to jump in on this?

Newbie alert question. Why are the hikes limited to a certain number of people?

    Looking forward to the trek.

Would snowshoes be in order as well?

    March 5, 2013

    • Brent D.

Snow shoes will not be needed on Mt. Si. There is a good chance you will need traction devices near the top.

I except to be back to the parking lot around 2:30. For those short on time, you can break from the group and head back a little early. Hiking Mt Si is pretty straightforward.

Finally, my first time doing Mt. Si!

Oh how I wish I could make it, I always like your hikes Brent. I'm going to be stuck inside a convention that weekend :(
