I keep staring at those gorgeous Olympic Mountains and am ready to go explore them! Let's start with Hurricane Hill - this is a good one for beginner snowshoers. The trip is 6 miles roundtrip with an elevation gain of 800 feet. WTA has a great write-up about the hike -
***IMPORTANT - I WILL CANCEL WITH SHORT NOTICE IF THERE IS HIGH AVALANCHE DANGER. ***
Plan on being gone all day, it will take just under 3 hours to get there. I will check the road conditions the day before since it may require chains. Definitely dress in layers and warmly, it can get pretty chilly up there! It says the hike will take about 4 hours - I do like to take a lot of pictures so we won't be cruising on this one.
We will figure out carpooling at the park and ride so please bring cash to give your drivers. Also bring gaiters or wear snow pants, waterproof boots, camera, snacks, water and your adventourous spirit! We will probably hit up a restaurant in Port Angeles on the way home since we will have worked up a good appetite!!
And for those that do not own snowshoes - you can rent them at REI. See you on the 8th!
