Falls Lake Trail Hike - Section 22

Note: Read the complete description of this hike. We'll be hiking the 4.7 mile Falls Lake Trail section #22 one way via car pooling.  We'll first meetup at the Car Pool Location on Red Mill Road at 9:00 AM. From there we'll drive to the Hike Start Location at the other end of the trail also on Red Mill Rd.  The hike will start at around 9:30 AM and take a bit less than 2 hours to complete. The trail head at both ends of section #22 are difficult to locate the first time you're there.  Be sure you know where you're going prior to heading to this hike by looking on Google Maps using the GPS Locations in the Carpool Location and Hike Start Location addresses below. Members have previously become seriously lost driving to this hike. I will arrive early at the Carpool Location and be standing beside the road to assist with locating the carpool parking area which is an unnamed dead end gravel road off Red Mill Rd.

Carpool Location: Red Mill Road  Durham, NC 27704 (1/4 Mile south of Eno River crossing  GPS Location:[masked],[masked])

Hike Start Location: Red Mill Road  Durham, NC 27704 (At Ellerbee Creek crossing GPS Location:[masked] [masked])

The 60 mile Falls Lake Trail starts at the Falls Lake Dam and ends at Penny's Bend. We'll be hiking the entire length of the trail via a series of hikes in October and November. Most hikes will involve car pooling. Reference Art's Hiking Maps of the Falls Lake Trail for additional information and how to obtain copies of the Falls Lake Trail map. Copies of the trail map are also available at some Falls Lake park offices. This newly released (Feb. 25, 2011) Falls Lake Trail map by Arthur (Art) W. Kelley is a must have if you're not already familiar with the trail.

Portions of the Falls Lake Trail we'll be hiking go through NC Game Lands which permits hunting. Wearing bright clothing is recommended. Remember to bring water and insect repellent.

A contact number will be sent to members who RSVP for this event.
