We'll be hiking the 3.9 mile Falls Lake Trail section 23 today. The hike has two options. Option #1: Starting from Pennys Bend hike section 23 out and back for a combined distance of 7.8 miles. Option #2: Starting from Pennys Bend hike 3.9 miles to the other end of section 23. If doing Option #1 meetup at the Hike Start Location at Pennys Bend at 9:00 AM. If doing Option #2 meetup at the Car Pool Location on Red Mill Rd. at 8:45 AM. From there we'll drive to the Hike Start Location at Pennys Bend. The hike will start at 9:05 AM sharp and take approx. 90 minutes to complete option #2 (one way) or 3 hours to complete the Option #1 (out and back). Special Note: If doing Option #2, be aware that the car pool location is difficult to find the first time you go there. Many members have become lost looking for it. Know were you are going prior to heading there by using Google Maps and the GPS Location listed below to orientate yourself. We will go out to lunch after the hike if there are members interested.

Car Pool Location: Red Mill Road Durham, NC 27704 (1/4 Mile south of Eno River crossing , GPS Location: 36.085,-78.824)
The 60 mile Falls Lake Trail starts at the Falls Lake Dam and ends at Penny's Bend. This is the last hike of the series we've been doing this Fall. The group will be hiking various sections again this Winter.

Copies of the trail map are also available at some Falls Lake park offices. This newly released (Feb. 25, 2011 or latter) Falls Lake Trail map by Arthur (Art) W. Kelley is a must have if you're not already familiar with the trail.
Portions of the Falls Lake Trail we'll be hiking go through NC Game Lands which permits hunting. Wearing bright clothing is recommended.
Remember to bring water and insect repellent.
