For the adventurer who wants a challenge, Slide Mountain is the tallest peak in the Catskills at 4190'* and is about a 2.5 hour drive from NJ. We will setup on Friday at a local campground for the weekend returning on Monday and hike the trails in the area, all of which are considered advanced with steep elevation gains (some up to 3000'). If you're an advanced hiker and want to be challenged, this is for you.
Camping: You’ll need to provide your own tent and make your own campsite reservation at Woodland Valley Campground through Reserve America. You will be responsible for your own meals. The site has warm showers and clean bathrooms, but camp sites have no electricity. You'll need to purchase firewood at the site. I have reserved site 16 next to the creek. After the hike on Saturday we plan to have a big group BBQ at site 16 so please bring something to share. I'll have breakfast and break down my campsite on Monday morning and plan stop at The Ice Caves at Sam's Point on the way home.
Friday: campsite setup, then meet for dinner at Sportsman's in Phoenicia around 7.
Saturday: Hike, then group BBQ i
Sunday: Hike, then group BB or dinner in Phoenicia
Monday: break down campsite and stop at Sam's Point Ice Caves
To RSVP: You will be responsible for setting up your own reservations and for researching and planning your own hikes in the area. This is not an event for beginner or intermediate hikers or for first timers.
