Christmas Caroling by kayak and other news

From: Saul_K
Sent on: Tuesday, December 7, 2010 6:28 PM
A few updates, I bought 2 more pairs of snow shoes this week, bring my loaner pool to 20 pairs, hopefully this makes it easier for more people to be able to join us on our events.

I also posted a Christmas Caroling by Kayak on the Seattle Sea Kayaking Meetup, I provide some loaner kayaks and to manage that without going insane, I am only doing sign ups on the Seattle Sea Kayaking group, if you want to join us, sign up. I'll provide kayaks, paddles and life jackets (pfds) for about 20 people, mostly in tandem kayaks. We will collect canned food or donations for NW Harvest which I will drop off the following day.

Here's the info, the link is at the end:
Announcing a new Meetup for Seattle Area Sea Kayaking Meetup Group!

What: Dec 22 - Christmas Caroling by kayak on Lake Union

When: Wednesday, December 22,[masked]:00 PM

Where: Montlake Playfield/Portage Bay
1618 E Calhoun St
Seattle, WA 98112

We did this last year and it was fun. I will contact a few houseboaters, we bring treats with us and sing for the houseboaters, Cindy will bring sheet music, a few of you claim to be able to sing. Afterwards we can find a place to get food and drinks. Bring lights. If you know any houseboaters let me know.

We'll have loaner kayaks replete with life jackets and paddles for about 15 people. I will bump up the RSVP count to allow anyone who is bringing their own kayak to join us.

So far I am bringing kayaks for the following people - if you need to borrow and don't see your name on the list - add "need to borrow" to your RSVP and make sure your RSVP is a "Yes". Here are the boat assignments so far. I did not assign any kayaks to Maybe's. I still have 3 kayaks left, so if you're a maybe and you need to borrow then you need to change your RSVP ASAP. You also need to show up otherwise you can't borrow a boat from me in the future.

What to bring:
What to bring:
o Prepare to get wet, You might want to bring a towel and change of clothes.
o Water bottle. There's water and restrooms at the park.
o Refreshments and snacks for afterwards
o Your sense of adventure and fun

Lights - at least one white light e.g. headlamp (not a strobe or flashing light) to be mounted on the kayak on worn on the person. Cyalume lights work great because they still work when wet. Fasten them to your kayak with duct tape.

Perhaps a power bar or dried figs to munch on.

Sense of Humor and fun.

Directions to the meeting place:
From 520 Eastbound take the Montlake Blvd exit and Turn right onto E Montlake Pl E and onto 24th street going south. Turn right at E Lynn St and after about half a mile turn right at 16th Ave E.

From 520 Westbound take the Lake Washingtom Blvd exit and turn left at the end of the ramp heading towards the Arboretum. Turn right at Boyer Ave E. Cross 24th street and carry on to 16th Ave E, which is a slight right turn. Follow this into the parking lot.

If you decide not to show up, please email me, or change your RSVP or even phone me at least 3 hours before the launch. No shows for borrowed boats are a headache since that means we delay launch while someone drives the empty boat(s) back to my house - can't leave them on the trailer or they may find a new home while we're out paddling, and towing empty boats while we paddle isn't that much fun.

I'm sure all of you will have a fun paddle.
